Jeromy You make a great argument, and to my own surprise I agree with you. I will give the film another go. I may have been to distracted by the bad fimmaking to see what you saw, but I will watch it again. Thank you for showing me the light.

Although I agree with some of what you are saying, I do think you missed the whole point.

A pedophile priest sees visions that could potentially save lives. What kind of FAITH do we have in him? As heinus of a criminal that he is, can God (or a higher power) still speak through him? Isn't this a core issue of spirituality? If we believe . . . what we believe . . . what we hope to believe in the pursuit of the truth. And then how we can potentially explain what we believe.

I'm not saying this was an incredible movie, but it was nevertheless interesting. What I've always found appealing about the X-Files is the way the show blurs science fiction with spiritual belief systems, horror with medicine, government conspiracy with truth and justice, and inevitably good and evil.

Take the plot vein of Scully's modern gene therapy contrasted with the more crude and brutal attempts the Russians take to prolong life. What are the ethics of taking such scientific risks? When do we let nature (or God's will) take its course? How do we care for the suffering while discovering new ways to treat ailments? There are great discussions here about the human condition.

Your opinion is your opinion, but respectfully I don't think you rant really took into count some of the core issues that were explored in the film and how relevant they are to modern society. Give the film a second look without the expectation of the continuation of the imminent alien invasion story arc and see what you think.

Agreed, this movie was pretty much terrible. I understood they were going to make it like a long television episode, but damn, did they have to make it a crappy episode. Should have just made the Antarctica Ear Worm episode into a movie, I'd watch it again. Great episode :).
