Twilight Book Review: A Guys Perspective!

Yes I know, I should be ashamed of myself, but it is one of those sacrifices that you make when you are married.
To be honest with you, I was intrigued by the concept of this book. I try to read as much as possible, and I like finding new authors. Well, I figured that since this was a #1 bestseller that it couldn’t be that bad. It wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t that good either. I am not saying that it was the worst book that I have ever read. It just doesn’t rank that high on my favorite book list.
The story is about a girl named Bella (Isabella) Swan, she is a seventeen year old girl who moves from Phoenix AZ. to Forks Washington. The reason for the move is because her mom is going to move to Florida with her new man. So Bella decides to move to the ever cloudy town of Forks to live with her father. While in Forks, Bella makes friends but she has an unusual run in with the local enigma Edward Cullen. Edward and his siblings are the loners of the school, but unlike most high school loners, the Cullen children are the most attractive kids at school. As time goes on, Edward warms up to Bella, and she notices that he is not like everyone else she knows. As the two start to fall in love with one another, Bella’s childhood friend Jacob, tells her that the local Indian tribe thinks that the Cullen family are vampires. The rest of the story is what happens when Edward’s and Bella’s worlds collide.
As a whole, Stephenie Meyer’s writing style is very easy to read. She has a great way of keeping the flow of the story. You never feel like she is throwing something into the story just to add on a few pages. I do wish that there was a little more action in the book. I was really anticipating the end sequence, because I thought there was going to be an suspense-filled, nail biting, action scene. Unfortunately, I did not get what I hoped for. Through out the book there is constant fore-shadowing of what will happen in future books. I am used to writers like Stephen King and Dean Koontz where you don’t notice any of the fore-shadowing until you are finished with the book and you think back and say “Oh Yeah! I totally get that now!”. Meyer’s fore-shadowing is so obvious that you can actually smell it as you are reading.
There are some really good things about this book that I have to mention. The first is one of the most important, this is a clean book. There is no nudity, it is not graphic in any way that would keep you from letting your children read it. In the way that society is going today, that is something that is hard to find. Second, it is really easy to read. My wife and I have taken turns reading it to each other while the we are taking care of our baby. No matter how tired you are, you won’t miss a thing.
For all of you crazy Twilight fans out there, I have some news for you. I recently watched an interview with Stephenie Meyer, and she gave some interesting information. It turns out that her newest book, Breaking Dawn, may be the last installment of Bella’s story, but the characters of the Twilight stories are not done. She feels that there is still more to add, just not from Bella’s perspective. So for you die hard fans, it is not all over.
All in all, this was a good book. It kept my interest. So, if you have an inkling of an interest in this book, I would say read it. Then you can at least see what all of the hype is all about. Please let me know what you think. Until next time!

I REALLY eant to read the twilight series but im afraid if i do ill get made fun of. Im a guy who DOESNT like romance stories, i just want to read them to see what people are all the rage about it. Like, I love the Harry Potter series and the Maximum Ride series : )! And others i just want to find out what people are so crazy about TWILIGHT for!!!!!!
GO POTTER!!! GO MAX!!!!!!!!
Well…I am interested in reading it, but all the girls are reading it at school. I want to see what all the hype is about, along with the movie being made, but I’m afraid that I might be made fun of. >.< I’m in the 8th Grade, so…reading a book is bad enough, but a guy reading a “girly” book would just be ‘gay.’ So…do you think it’s worth the humiliation? (Not sure of the spelling of the word, sorry….please answer if you can!)
Joey & Brenden, I myself have not read the books. I really have no interest in reading them but I will see the movie because I told my wife I would. There is nothing wrong with reading. I am constantly reading books I just don’t have room on my list for Twilight. I understand that you don’t want to get made fun of, but I support reading and if your interested in reading the Twilight books then go for it. If you don’t like it while your reading then you don’t have to finish. I just wouldn’t be carrying the book around school for everyone to see.
Great book! I read Twilight and am now on New Moon, 125 pages in.
I have finished the twilight book, and i have a friend thats a guy of course, and he is afraid to read it because, he might be made fun of. I say who cares, and read it at night if your that worried. Just do what you enjoy, dont worry about masculinity, or feminity of society. (sp?)
really i loved this book.. ive read all four books and some of stephanie’z other books.. i love her writting style. but if it matters , my opinion about the guy reading twilight stuff. there are so many duddes in my school that are reading twilight because they think im cool or whatever.. but i really like guys who read.. its some what of a turn on.. so u might get made fun of or u might just get a new girlfreind that thinks your intresting you know..

i think that this is a great book. i am a guy and i read all four of them. they were amazing. yea u may get made fun of alitle bit but who really cares. wow u read twilight big deal. its a great book, and there is a character everyone can relate to. i say that if u wanna read it go for it. i myself am reading them for the second time to catch things i might have missed. i also read midnight sun on stephenies website. well good luck all u guys who wanna read twilight.

best book ever:)
you dont have to be emberassed for reading it. just dont read it at school and the chicks wont know. plus girls think its hot that were into it
I got this book a few days ago and i’m halfway finished!! I was *never* a book fan, but with this book I cannot wait to pick it up. I can hardly wait till nighttime and mornings to read it.. right now i’m going to go read it as I finish this comment lol. I’m def looking forward to the other 3 books.
Honestly, I hated this book. Yes, I’m a girl. Yes, I’m in my teenage years. In my opinion, this book is full of mary-sues (Basically people who are ‘perfect’) and gary-stues. It’s stupid, boring, and plain. It’s just like a teenage girl’s online fanfiction that never got read. I don’t recommend it. And yes, you WILL come off as gay to other people. :l
I’m with Michelle’s comment.
It’s worth noting how many fans of real books can’t stand the Twilight series, and how many people who were “never into books before” absolutely love it. Maybe it’s just good for early readers who don’t want the challenge of actually thinking while reading.
heyy buddy thats because your gay!
DON’T FUCKING READ IT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT END OF STORY! SHITFACE!
Someone is taking this very personally. There is no need to get offensive. We all have different points of view.
well I like to read and I was curious about the movie so I read twilight and then watched the movie. I was disappointed both about the book and movie. I found the book exhausting because of all the romance and Edward’s arrogance (sorry). I think it is not worth it. I have other priorities I want to read. This is just not me.
I really liked this book, it lived up to all the hype. (I’m on Eclipse now.)
I LOVE TWILIGHT!!! I am taking my time on the last book because there is supposedy another series coming out that is going to be from edwards point of view!! I love them. They are an easy read but still mature enough that you can connect. Edward is perfect… yes. Jacob is real! I love them both and i highly recommend reading this series!!
i liked twilight…it was a good book, but just good.sum ppl just got overly excited about it though.i’m not here 2 judge, evryone has their own opinions, but it wasn’t the best book i’ve ever read. there are other more realistic and meaningful books out there.i think evryone just enjoyed stephanie meyer’s writing style, and i would hav 2 agree she is a pretty good writer.i disagree with the ppl who say it a book 4 all ages, if ur an adult u should b looking 4 sumthing a bit more motivational and realistic, u could read it ,but mayb just 4 fun.
i REALLY didn’t like the movie.the actors r good, but it could hav been WAY better.
that’s all! :]geeks r awesum!
There are plenty of guys who read this book in my school. They even read the whole series. Don’t be afraid to read this book. I even read the whole series.
Sadly she will not be publishing Midnight Sun (the book from Edwards perspective) A while ago during the early rough drafts, one of her proof readers leaked the story to the world. so you can read a couple chapters on her website but she can’t ever publish the book. sorry to dissapoint.
I just can’t believe how it was published in the first place. There were a lot of errors and definitely was not an engrossing read for me. IMO the vampires in the book were so un-sexy. I’m glad I didn’t buy the book, I downloaded it instead (as advised from a few people on the internet). I think the movie was executed so much better than the book. English is not my mother tongue and I’m definitely no pro in English but for an author to make mistakes like that..wow she must be really lucky. I’d rather read the Sweet Valley series or fan fictions =_=
I like Twilight so much. I’ve read them all. They’re brilliant!
I really recommend the twilight books. i no sum ppl thinks they’re rubbish but i don’t think they’re too bad.
Not a bad book for teens, not the best book in the world but its good.
This book is good. It’s mainly recommended for teenage girls, but it’s perfectly great for teenage boys too.
I actually, recommend this book to EVERYONE!
GO TEAM EDWARD!

BEST BOOK SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FAR LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
i’m in year ten, 15 years old, and have read the series many times.
guys, honestly, don’t give a crap about what other people think,
it is an awesome series, and i would read it over and over!
there is nothing wrong with reading these books, it’s like an eye opener.
i read it due to my girlfriend is like, obsessed with edward and what not, so i decided to see who this edward guy was. I also read it for personal gain, i thought that maybe i could see how my girlfriend saw me.
i was correct, i benefited a lot from this series, and recommend it to any guy that wants to read it!
Twilight was a pretty bad book in my opinion. I had heard great things about it, so I figured I’d give it a chance. I only read the first book, but wasn’t interested at all in the rest of the series after that. The writing is fairly shallow, in terms of the characters and dialogue, and was fairly bland. I do have to agree that the setting descriptions were quite vivid and I had an easy time ‘living’ in Forks in my head. Certainly different than other vampire books I’ve read (not too many) and it was a little refreshing to have it be set in current times, which was also part of my disgust with the book.
There were some interesting ideas in the book, some I liked (baseball with tree bats? Awesome) and some that were just lame (Glittering vampires?) but overall this book left me unsatisfied.
My real problem doesn’t lie with the book, which I think if reworked and developed could be decent as opposed to poor, but with the fans who glorify a book that is a (slight) step above supermarket novels. If this is really the best book you’ve ever read, you need to read more.
Okay, so I am a girl who read twilight. and at first i have to admit i really loved it. But then I read for a second time and realized all of it’s flaws. Not only that, but i began to hate the characters. But despite all of it’s flaws, I do not HATE Twilight. The only thing that (in my opinion) saves this book is Stephanie Meyers ability to tell a story. If the writing was better, and the characters weren’t as irritating, then this would deserve to be a best seller. But don’t get me wrong, i’m not judging any of it’s fans because I DO see what attracts them to it.
Ok i am a girl and i think if a guys will read this book he will know what love is so come on the guys that think it is to girlie FUCK them ALL they are just all guy. My boyfriends read twilight and he loved it. it doesnt mean he is gay. so guys read twilight u would LOVEEEEEEEEEEE it. trust me!!
~I <3 gansters~
i hate reading but wanted to read the bools to see what the hype was about. i loved the books read all four in a couple of weeks its a great love story i wish i had an edward
i really liked twilight and new moon too . i dont think there is anything 2 be ashamed about if u read it , even if you are a guy , its a good book and if u read it it doesn’t make you gay or girly. good books should be appreciated . and this one makes for great time pass.
I love to read classic novels, but every once in awhile a popular novel will pique my interest. For instance, I did get pulled in to the HP hype, and I’m glad that I did! They are written extremely well, and I’ve loved them all. I resisted Twilight for all this time, and I now wish I had heeded my own reservations. This is written for little girls who believe in fantasy land type love. It is a clean, pre-teen version of a harlequin romance novel, set to vampire. Much more, it’s not even written well. The dialogue is juvenile, the story is poorly structured, and I have to painfully agree with the review above that the so-called forshadowing slaps you in the face. I am in awe of the popularity of this book, and would probably lose all respect for any adult over 28 who takes a fanatical interest in this book. That said, the idea of further character development in a different format sounds interesting as the Cullens are an intriguing batch. The vampire lore is the best part of the book, even given that conventional vampire knowledge is sometimes ignored.
U should totally read the books! Don't listen to what ppl say. I think that it is nice how a guy FINALLY wants to read twiluight, because, truly, I see it as an awesome book.
ROCK ON SAMANTHA!
I LOVE THE SERIES! BEST EVER! HATE THE PPL WHO HATE IT, JUST A FACT!
I'm Sorry you got it all wrong. This is in no sense a CLEAN story. Since when is it clean for people to be in abusive relationships? (OMG IF EDWARD LEAVES I WILL DIE I TOTALLY DEPEND ON HIM)
When is it natural for people to stalk other people? (Remember when edward was like "oh yeah i watch you sleep every night"?)
To the average reader i guess there is so much you will miss but do you really want your daughter to grow up thinking it's healthy to depend solely on a single person?
love twilight edward is so cute!
Dude i read it and its pretty good. Not anywhere close to the harry potter series but still good.
I absolutely hated it. I loved it the first time, but after trying to read it again, after the hype of OMGPOPULARBOOK died down it was a terrible story. It's the same boring plot of "forbidden love" with an arrogant jerk of a male character and a pushy throwing-herself-in-Edward's-face heroin, and the story itself wasn't about vampires at all. It was about two teenagers who love each other and are absolutely abstinent and are running away from danger that ends in a "Yo Mama" style fight. Edward's "I love you I watch you sleep at night" is creepy and stalkerish, Bella's "OMGLOVEMEORI'LLDIE" gives the notion that suicide is okay when you're a teenager in love with a broken heart, and the villain tried to be a villain but ended up being an easy kill with a BOOM HEADSHOT type of death. And coming from a girl who was 14 when she read the series, it was bad.
But then again no wonder why most teenage girls love it. =/
yo man………… just read them in secret like i am
i find them good books………. it seems that you like the same authors!!!!!!!! except for harry potter…… sorry
i love twilight but i really dont like the people who call themselves fans just because the book is now popular i also fell that the movie wasnt good at all it just dragged on and skipped a bunch of things from the book that didnt need to be skipped
i was a bit disappointed on account of the fact its meant 2 be a vampire book, not a romance novel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
