Fathom Movie to Star mega foxy Megan Fox

According to IESB ‘Fathom’ is still a go at 20th Century Fox. It has been in development hell for some time now. Then I thought the project was dropped due to the death of creator Michael Turner earlier this year. But it seems Fox has moved the project to Fox Atomic which is the genre arm of the studio. They also say:
The studio is currently out to several writers to bring aboard to revamp the script as a vehicle for Megan Fox, who, our source says, has officially signed onto the project this week. Fox is set to play the lead character of Aspen.
They defiantly got an actress that looks the part! Megan Fox will play the lead character Aspen Matthews. I am not sure about her acting abilities. They are all ready very wooden. But in a comic book film like Fathom are people going to really care about her acting abilities? This movie is just gong to be full of eye candy. Sometimes that’s all you need to get the male population into the theaters.
Aspen Matthews continues to search for clues from her past in order to balance the turmoil between the two world’s she’s inhabited. Stepping off the Paradise cruise ship in 1984, Aspen was adopted by the naval officer Captain Matthews and subsequently raised under his supervision. She flirted with Olympic gold in Seoul in 1988 before controversy washed away his swimming career. Instead focusing on earning multiple degrees in Marine Biology, Aspen became an expert in her field and earned her a position on the DMD, or Deep Marine Discovery. It was at the DMD where Aspen’s tumultuous journey with the race of The Blue began. After defeating the renegade leader Killian and ending the Blue Sun incident, Aspen was captured by the mysterious race known as The Black.
So what are your thoughts? Is Megan Fox the girl for the job?
I think she looks the part but the true question is can she act for the main role of this character. The story is very important to many fans who want to see a true adaption from the Fathom comic book to the movie. Just as the Batman: The Dark Knight I would like to see a serious side taken and have this movie treated with respect especially to the creator of this story Michael Turner (RIP). I really don’t care about how hot she is. I care about the story and ensuring that it is acted out properly to make it a great movie that will have movie watchers wanting to see it because of a great storyline and not just cause they are a bunch of horny school kids.
I also think she looks the part, and I liked her in her minor Transformers role, but her playing Aspen is a BIG deal and she’d better step up and do her very best. For a huge Fathom fan like me, there’s going to be high expectations.
I just bought the Michel Turner Tribute issue yesterday and there is a picture of Mike and Megan Fox in the book. (Everyone please go get the book. Proceeds go to Mikes charities.) I agree with most of what’s been posted here, but the fact that the creator himself wants her to play the role says a lot in my book. She’s a young actress and I believe she has her head in the right place. I really don’t think that she would take on this role if she wasn’t going to give it her best. It’s a huge responsibility for any actress to fill the shoes of these types of characters. The best thing we can do is believe in her and give her the support and confidence she needs.
Let’s not put all the responsibility of this movie on Megan here. She could be a fantastic actress and be perfect for the role; but if the writers and producers blow their jobs then the movie could be a flop as well. The revamping of the script scares me. I don’t want them to make this into an all action, sex and special effects movie with no plot at the core; just a movie to try and bring in the bucks. If she gives her best I believe that Megan will fill the role perfectly; the biggest responsibility is on the writers and producers.

Good point Asher. I’m also worried that the film adaptation of Witchblade is going to be bad. It really stinks when Hollywood takes perfectly written characters and puts their own spin on them. Watch the special features on The Crow. James O’Barr Talks about how some Hollywood producers seriously considered casting Michael Jackson to play the part of Eric Draven. We can only hope in Fathom’s case that the material will be well written.
I also agree with asher. As far as Megan Fox issue goes, obviously she looks the part. More importantly though, she has been a diehard Fathom fan since the beginning and was also a friend of Mike’s. I believe those two things right there will be plenty motivation for her to do the best job she can. She’s also looking to become a producer on the film, and it’s my guess that being a fan and friend of MT’s that she’s doing that so that she can make sure the movie will be something that will do justice to Mike’s amazing world of Fathom.
I wonder if they’ll bring in The Rock to play Canon? =P
Let’s hope the writers have some decency and turn this into a shallow teen film. I would hate to have Michael’s (RIP) memory tarnished just to make a quick buck.
Last thought, I can’t think of anyone else that fits the role better than Megan at the mo. All the best of luck making the movie
I agree with whats been said. Fox certainly looks the part, which is great but acting is a concern. I did hear though, that she has been a fan of the comic since it came out in 1998, and typically when actors feel a strong connection to a project it usually brings out the best in their abilities. Let’s just pray Fox doesn’t kill this. This is Turner’s first creator-owned character and justice must be done for him.
I think Megan Fox looks totally identical to Aspen Mattews and you are right I hope she does a good job on the acting I also hope she doesn’t do bad, because Aspen Mattews is my favorite character in the comic book.

A Black Woman? I’ve read the comic series (a few times) and I don’t remember that. She had more of an Olive complexion.
But…that being said, I am not sure I like Meghan Fox for the role. I am not saying she is a terrible actress, I would just also like to see a lesser known actress for the role. Someone with good acting chops.
Asher’s got the right idea, i don’t think it really matters if Fox can portray Aspen or not, I’m already in the mind set that this movie will suck as it often does (Though granted there are many exceptions) when those ‘wonderful movie companies’ get a hold of a great story, then pick through it without any thought of what the story is about…..Basically I will have my reservations about this movie until I’ve seen it, but I’d like to actually watch a movie for its story then the titty shots

I have been a huge Turner fan for years. I like Fox as the lead, that being said, I have always thought Jennifer Connelly would also make a good Aspen. I don't think we have really seen the serious side of Meagan Fox yet in her career. If she can bring out the dominant, intelligent female side of Aspen, she will be excellent. My real fears lie with the writing. Why do they need to write in anything? Can the comics not be used as the basics to the plot? Those little words in the speech bubbles could just be the actors lines.

i think she'lll do pretty well. i mean she's hot and fresh, and she's a star. her acting isnt grade a , but she makes up for that with her looks. plus, i really wanna see the movie!
I've got every issue of Fathom, including most of the variant covers, framed and hanging on the wall in my den where i'm writing this now. There is not a single cover where Aspen looks black. She looks like a white girl with a tan BECAUSE SHE'S A SURFER!!!
Y'all are making me mad. If the man who created the character said Megan Fox is right for the part, who are you to critisize? If Micheal Turner(God rest) felt that Megan Fox was the best actor to portray Aspen, then she is the best actor to portray Aspen. To sit here, a year after the man's death, and insinuate that you could make better choices for his creations than he did is offencive! The man was a genious. He would have been the next Stan Lee, if cancer hadn't taken him so young.
Uhhh, i think you may need to read the comic book again. lol She clearly is not a black woman. You might be thinking of the movie Wanted. She is suppose to be a black woman, but instead they have Angelina Jolie to play her part.
I agree with pretty much everyone about the look of Aspen going to Megan…but definately, I fear that her acting ability isn't mature as it could be or maybe. It's no disrespect to Mike Turner and his choice in actress; he certainly has the eye to find the perfect resemblance. Us fans are protective of his creation and don't want the movie to disappoint a lot of people. But, I hope we are all wrong about Megan Fox's acting. I am tired of seeing Angelina (Jolie) in the seat of every comic book hero or any female action hero that she has gotten her hands on. (part 1)
I think the success of the movie shares the responsibilty of both actress/actors and the director of the movie. I'm wondering how much experience does the director really possess. The only successful movie I heard the director ever did was "Horton Hears a Who". It was a great kid movie i have to agree, but with the money made, does he have the budget to make an epic movie? If it turns out to be a drastic failure as the movie Watchmen, I would sorely be disappointed. I doubt it would be THAT bad. I hope all do their best to honor the creator and make this an awesome movie that is meant to be.
Oh, one more thing…I did want to add a comment that KnoxBrad mention…I actually thought Jennifer Connelly and Megan Fox look very closely similar…like older sister or young mother/daughter combo. Good eye. lol (part 2)
