Mr. Black reviews “Let the Right One In”

I know Venkman posted a review for this Swedish horror movie a few days ago, but since it is Halloween I feel inclined to write my own little review on it.

All in all I LOVED this film. I am a huge fan of Vampire movies from Nosferatu to Underworld, from the blockbusters to the homemade, I have seen most, and I have to say that this is one of the most original vampire flicks I have seen in a very long time.

The atmosphere is a solid and believable. It feels like this film exists in the real world. The acting on the part of Kåre Hedebrant as Oskar and Lina Leandersson as Eli is amazing. The cinematography is dead on. This is the kind of movie that I can see being taught to film students for years to come. Most importantly … the story is solid.

I will say though, that the storytelling is a bit different then what most Americans are used to. I noticed that many people laughed at parts in the film that weren’t meant to be funny. I am all about laughing at really badly done B-Movies because production or story is ridiculous, but, for “Let The Right One In”, I think it was wrong. I guess some of the audience just didn’t get it. The movie was not intended to be funny.

I HIGHLY recommend this film. Especially if you are a fan of Vampires, like I am, or if you indulge in foreign films. It is a great movie. This film is easily on my top 5 best films for the year.
