Will it Be a Fanboy Oscar season?

News has hit hard today that Pixar is once again trying to push their latest CG animated film ‘Wall-E’ for Best Picture not Best Animated Picture, but the main nacho big Best Picture. I thought the movie was good, but not as good as ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Ratatouille’, both better movies in my eyes. I will be surprised if it actually gets nominated. One day Pixar will make a film that makes it in the Best Picture catagory I just don’t think ‘Wall-E’ is it.

Other movies that are being pushed for Best Picture are Warner Bros ‘The Dark Knight’ and Marvel/Paramount’s ‘Iron Man’. This next year could very well be a year for the Fanboys and Fangirls of the world. I can tatally see ‘The Dark Knight’ being a strong contender for ‘Best Picture’. I would love to see ‘Iron Man’ up there, but I just don’t think it will happen. I will be stoked if it does, but it definitely won’t win. ‘The Dark Knight’ has the best chance of winning. It was my #1 favorite movie this year, so I would be happy if it won.

I tell you what, if these are the kinds of movies that end up getting 2009 Academy Award nominations, a lot of people are going to tune into the Oscars, and the ratings will get a big boost. If that is the case and with all these independant studios shutting down, will the future of the Oscars lie with big budget tent pole films? I hope not. There are some still some little great films out there that need to be acknowledged. What do you think about all this?

Dark knight yes, Iron man not a chance of being nominated. Heath will be a strong contender for supporting male. There will always be the Queen Elizabeth and the Daniel Day pics to deal with…
