Joe Johnston will Direct Marvels Captain America Film

So Marvel has found their man to direct the great American Superhero ‘First Avenger: Captain America’! Joe Johnston director of films such as ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’, ‘The Rocketeer’, ‘Jumanji’, ‘October Sky’, ‘Jurassic Park 3′, ‘Hidalgo’, and most recently ‘The Wolf Man’.

My first initial thought was Awesome! I think he will be able to pull it off! There are a lot of people out there bashing the idea of Joe Johnston directing ‘Captain America’, but I think he is a great choice. The guy has proven that he knows how to tell a story and he has done a varity of other films. I have enjoyed all of the films that he has made. One of my favorite films of all time is ‘October Sky’ which was a very small film in comparison to anything else he has done. If you haven’t seen it it is one of those movies you have to watch.

THR Reports:

Johnston first met with Marvel two years ago. When the two parties clicked, general talks turned into Captain America-specific meetings, with much of the project’s current direction resulting from those early conversations.

“This is a guy who designed the vehicles for ‘Star Wars,’ who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ” Feige said. “From ‘Rocketeer’ to ‘October Sky’ to ‘The Wolfman,’ you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one.”

Kicking off with “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios’ slate of movies –including “Thor” and the “Iron Man” sequel — is building toward an “Avengers” movie set for release in 2011, in which the characters from the films team for one big adventure. “Captain America” is scheduled for release May 6, 2011.

“Captain America” will be a World War II-set movie, and the character will appear in the modern day-set “Avengers.” Executive producing on “Captain” are Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee and Marvel Studios’ chairman David Maisel.

I couldn’t be more excited for this to happen now. I have complete confidence that Johnston will develop an incredible Captain America movie.

I’m not sure about this. October Sky was an amazing film because of the music and the lighting. Plus Gyllenhaal and the guy who played his Dad, carried that movie. It was the best thing Johnston has ever been connected to. He is going to ruin this movie with stupid kiddie dialogue, bad cutting, and “plot twists” that make no sense at all. I mean come on, Jurassic Park 3, don’t put that on your resume. That’s like saying, you interned at a crackhouse for a summer, when you’re trying to get a job at NASA. Go back to your kid books with a lot of pictures hack.

I think that if Johnston does an origins type film, then there will be no stopping him. Dude has an eye for dynamic shots and I think that is what a movie like Captain America needs.

if you're going to use someone to play Captain America then you have to choose right. For starters it can't be someone that is too well known because Cap is unique as they come and no one can just fit the part you have to fit it. Example: An American Gladiator, they have the body and the muscles however Cap is adgile in which they are not. Remember Cap is bigger than Superman because he carries the flag as his shield. starting of with how he was first created into a super soldier and frozen to a new era is definately a plus. None of that weak love stuff like in the first Captain America movie. What would be cool is if you ad wolverine in the movie seeing that they were the only two heros back then.
