Director Catherine Hardwicke fired from ‘Twilight’ franchise.

Wow! I didn’t see this coming. The director of ‘Twilight’ Catherine Hardwicke has been kicked off the successful Twilight franchise. She will not be directing anymore Twilight films. Deadline Hollywood got the low down and confirmation that this news is true. Summit Entertainment will make the news official any time now but their is going to need to be major damage control. With Twilight making over $160 million dollars Hardwicke is the most successful female director in Hollywood even though the movie is getting awful reviews. As Summit preps to shoot ‘New Moon’ and ‘Eclipse’ back to back what is it that Hardwicke did to deserve getting fired?

Word from inside Summit claims that the director was ” ‘difficult’ and irrational’ during the making of twilight. They are also saying that “Summit didn’t like her. They’re saying the director of Photography Elliot Davis is the one responsible for the film’s sumptuous visual look, that the editor Nancy Richardson had to save the film in post-production, and Summit Thought Hardwicke’s CAA agent Beth Swofford was alternately ineffectual and hysterical when it came to controlling her clients.”

So I take it this was a long time coming. Apparently the studio has already been having talks with director repped by CAA. and that Swofford never told Hardwicke that she was about to get kicked of the franchise. The ‘Twilight ‘ cast and crew which includes the director are going to be doing interviews in France next week, it is safe and sad to assume that she is going to be getting grilled by the press regarding this in front of her cast about why this has happened to her.

What can I say? Hollywood is what it is, and if everything that Summit is saying is true then she should not not have been so difficult. Their has to be more behind all this though because I think most directors are difficult to deal with. I think it all comes down to the fact that Summit knows they can get a better director for the next Twilight films. I am sure they want these next movies to be better than the first.

They are making more of these terrible movies?

  2. Jared on December 7th, 08

In other news some other poor director set to have their career ruined.

  3. Mann is the Man on December 7th, 08

So I heard James Cameron is very difficult to deal with and I don’t see him getting kicked from anything…..

  4. Jimbo on December 8th, 08

Well, from what i hear Twilight only performed so well because of it’s pre-existing fanbase and the movie is pretty crappy. So maybe the next two will be better?

If you actually took the time to read the books instead of watching the movie, you would see that the story line is amazing. The pull into dreamscapes are so vivid. When they decided to short cut the story is where the failed. They made this into an un-suspensfull teen vampire love story. Hopefully with this director gone they won’t kill the rest of the books.

Nope, sorry. Books are bad, movies are and will continue to be bad. Anyone who knows and respects real literature will tell you that the Twilight books are bad.
