HBO’s ‘Rome’ to get the big screen treatment

Remember that really good show on HBO called ‘Rome’ that we only got two seasons of? Well it looks like the creater Bruno Heller is working on getting a big screen movie made to wrap up everything they didn’t get to cover in its short 2 seasons. When ‘Rome ‘ was cancelled it was far from over they had plans to get five seasons in, but the show was so expensive to produce I guess everyone thought is wouldn’t be worth it. Bruno tells THR:

“I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end, The second was going to end with death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There’s certainly more than enough history to go around.”

I thought it was strange how they were fast forwarding through so much history, but when you find out the show is getting cancelled you do what you can to wrap it up. I really hope this movie gets done, imagine what they will be able to do with a really good budget. So how is the movie coming along?

“It’s moving along. It’s not there until it is there. I would love to round that show off.”

And if it gets made I will be there to see it.

Hell ya I loved that show.

I really enjoyed the Rome HBO series but I think Bruno made a mistake collapsing so much history into season 2 when he knew that HBO would drop the project. It create a bunch of gaps and made the series disjointed. Now going forward is he going to jump to the time of Christ? There is a ton of material to go return and backfill the story but that would be awkward.

Hey Joe, I agree with you that the 2nd season was so so disjointed. I think it would have flowed better had he stuck o the original plan but he just wanted to wrap it up for his audience instead of leave them hanging like they did with Carnival. I still want to see how that ends! If the movie actually goes down it will be interesting to see how they go about doing it. It may seem awkward bu there is no doubt it will be good.
