When will we see a Batman 3?

From the sound of it, not any time soon. At least that is what I get out of this article on usatoday.com.
Mr. Nolan sounds like he has a fear of “the third”:
I don’t know why they’re hard to do,” Nolan says. “Maybe there’s so much expectation to them. But I wouldn’t want to do one if it weren’t going to be as good as the first or second. That’s not respectful to the fans
I know there have been a lot of thirds that have turned out to be flops. But CN is up against a bigger challenge than most. Not only did he have the second highest grossing movie ever, but the actor that brought the most to the movie has passed away. The challenge is finding a suitable villain that can keep the interest of the fans the way Mr. Ledger did. Because of his spectacular performance, I would be more than fine with this being the last Batman film. I just have trouble trying to find that one villian that stand out after Ledgers Joker.
Don’t worry all of you hardcore Dark Knight fans. CN has not given up on the project:
Nolan says he is jotting notes and doing some rough outlines for a third story, but he hasn’t yet found anything he’s willing to commit to film, despite Warner Bros.’ eagerness to get a new film underway
I’m just glad to know that he is not sacrificing the material just to please “the man”. In my opinion, there have been some great “thirds” that have been made. I feel that my all time favorite is Army of Darkness. I want to know that you all think have been some great thirds to have come out. I know they are out there, so it can be done. As you all know, we here at GeekTyrant will stay on top of any Dark Knight news. But until then, let me know what you think.

Bourne, Pirates, Star Wars III. It’s possible. Nolan is brilliant, he doesn’t make bad movies. People just have to realize a third movie will probably be less about an ultimate villain.
why does it have to be less about a villain? as these Batman movies are released, Nolan is also unveiling little by little Batman/Bruce Wayne’s life (remember he was still in his loft and not at the Wayne Manor because it burnt down) and also intertwining the lives of the villains, like two face’s character. If he does it the right way, he’ll not only delve more so into the life of Harvey Dent/ Two face but also introduce a new character like he very, very discreetly did in this last movie by putting in tiny clues that would lead us to believe the next villain will be the riddler.
There are so many other villains in the batman franchise: think about riddler, killer croc, bain, poison ivy and even catwoman could be AMAZING! don’t give up hope, mcmurphy! believe in nolan.
i think in my opinion btw, that the best third installment was high school musical 3…
kidding
I honestly think the next logical choice would be Catwoman. The relationship between Bruce and Selena would be perfect to end the the trilogy. The love story as well as the constant conflict they had being enemies.
I seriously hope they never ever ever do Killer Croc. I just don’t see how they would be able to incorporate Croc into Nolan’s Batman.
I am also glad to hear that Nolan wants to respect the fans. But at the same time, Warner is going to make it with or without Nolan and I hope he can make the third one. Something to think about: no mater what film he makes, there is no possible way that the third film will receive the critical acclaim and positive reactions it did from the fans. TDK was such a rare experience that he will not be able to please nearly everyone as he did with the sequel. Nice “favorite threequel” btw Murphy; too bad Raimi couldn’t mirror that with his third Spidey……..
Totally agree Mann! I think I vomited and passed out twice in Spidey 3. It was a sad sad day.
That catwoman comment was the best. i really think that would be awesome.
The third film needs to have villains that can be translated into a down to earth story line that could be plausible in real-life. That being said I think that the Riddler would be a great villain, especially if you could get an actor that could bring as much to the plate as Ledger did. The Riddler actor needs to be someone who can create a dark persona; a dark, believable character that poses a legitimate threat to society. I think that Johnny Depp (who has been rumored to play the Riddler) would be perfect. He would be able to act on the same tier as Ledger but at the same time would put his own personal stamp on the new Nolan Batman series. He would definitely reinvent the Jim Carrey Riddler, hopefully doing a good enough job to completely erase Carrey’s performance in Batman Forever from our memories.
As in the first two movies of the Nolan series (ie Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) there were two villains in each. I believe that if Nolan decides to come on board for a third film he will stick to that formula. In addition to the Riddler, who is a very well known character from the Batman comics (Batman films need at least one very well known character to help bring in the casual to non Batman fans) I think that the Black Mask would be a very great secondary villain. The Black Mask would make a great mob boss, and he has ties to the Wayne family all the way back to his childhood. With an obscure character like him it would be essential to have a well known character like the Riddler.
Another route that the third film may go in is to bring in Catwoman. She could replace Rachael as Bruce Wayne’s love interest. I personally would not like to see Catwoman, and would have no problem with the exclusion of any sort of love interest for Bruce Wayne but it is a distinct possibility.
Also, the Penguin could make for an interesting secondary character in addition to the Riddler. He could be seen as an arms dealer or a mob boss, similar to the style of character of the Black Mask. I personally would rather see the Black Mask though, I liked how in Batman Begins Nolan brought in Ra’s Al Ghul, a villain who is really only known by the serious Batman fans. The Black Mask is seen repeatedly in the comics and would be a great character in a Nolan Batman film. He is dark, real and has definite ties to Bruce Wayne.
Villains that I do NOT want to see: (in no particular order)
1) A recast of the Joker, no one can redo the Oscar performance of Ledger.
2) Mr. Freeze
3) Poison Ivy
4) Clayface
5) Croc
6) Harley Quinn (she would pretty much require a recast of the Joker, and even if they were able to successfully recast the Joker, Harley Quinn would most indefinitely ruin the movie. She is too cartoonish, she is not as down to earth as the first two Nolan movies.
I would love to see a really dark unpredictable riddler as the main villain and killer croc as his henchman. They could maker croc realistic by making him a ex wresteler with crocodile tatoos all over his body. He should also be a cannible and eat people. All that would make him very realistic. They just need to find a good actor to do the riddler and have him fit into the story perfectly. If they can pull that off and keep everything else realistic I think it could definatley be as good as the Dark Kight.
