Killzone 2 Review

First off, I was a huge fan of the first game. The imagery and graphics were amazing (for the time) And the overall artistic design was something that conveyed a sense of warfare in the future.
I just picked up Killzone 2 this morning and damn is it good. The graphics of course are enhanced for the PS3, far superior to its predecessor. As the game begins you are shown a brief introductory movie about the invasion of Helghan, the home world of a genetic off shoot of humanity named Helghast. I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful the CG was. The characters were brilliantly modeled, animated, and textured. the entire world was upgraded with beautifully hi poly and high textured models to the point where the transition to actual gameplay is flawless with no graphical reduction.

You play as Sev who is a battle hardened ISA marine and a member of special operations squad commanded by Sgt Rico (who you may remember from the first game). The use of cover plays heavy this time around. You can hide behind almost anything in the environment and peak out taking shots without putting yourself in the line of fire.

I think the best feature of this game is the fact that there is no real Heads Up Display giving you more immersion into the gameplay. Your ammo counter will display only when you are firing or reloading. And the best part is that there is no Health gauge. As you take damage your vision begins to blur and you see blood splats on screen in the direction that you were shot from. As your vision weakens so does your life, so its a good idea to take some cover before blindness and death set in.

All in all I thought Killzone 2 was a great game I highly recommend it to those who loved the first and to who love First Person Shooters.
