NEVERENDING STORY: Another Childhood Film Classic Gets Jacked
I am a product of the 80’s and ‘The Neverending Story’ is a movie I grew up watching and loving. I have shown this 1984 film to my kids and they love it as well, even though the movie was made so long ago. I hate the fact that Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the property, that The Kennedy/Marshall Co, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way are currently talking about bringing back the 25 year old franchise. Of course they want to put a modern spin on the story.
The original movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen is about a boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux who is a loner that discovers a parallel world in a book titled “The NeverEnding Story.” As the boy gets deeper into the book, he increasingly finds his life intertwined with the plot of the novel, in which a hero in the land of Fantasia must save the universe on behalf of an empress. That empress played by Tami Stronach was my first movie girl crush.
I could care less about the crap sequel that was made in 1990 and the third one made in 1996. Those two sequels were awful.
I hate that Warner Bros. is going to make yet another Neverending Story loser movie. There is no way in hell it will live up to the standards of the original film that was developed in a time when there was no Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings movies. Fantasy movies were not a Hollywood fad at the time ‘Clash of the Titans’ came out a couple years before, but thats about it, and now thats being remade as well.
There is no stopping it. Hollywood is going to remake what ever the hell they want no matter what. Some movies I just wish they didn’t feel they need to touch and try to improve on. In the end no matter what they do these remakes will never be as good as the originals.

It kinda sucks that in ten years, when we go to talk about our favorite old movies, we will always have to preface with, “now i’m talking about the ORIGINAL, not that crappy remake.”
I just threw up in my mouth.
I’ve always thought it’d be cool if they did multiple, multiple, multiple sequals like Truffaut’s Antoine Doinel series.
Or do like a Warhol-sized 9 hour long movie.
This really sucks! The original film was the only one to be really based on the book, and as such the only one that was actually good (the sequel was based on the second part of the book, but made so many changes it just didn’t work. And I’m saying nothing of the crap 3rd sequel that was just a quick cash-in on the popularity (at the time) of the actor of Free Willy).
Now the only thing that could make it work would be if Hollywood made it a reboot, really based it on the book, and planned it as a series of two movies that would really follow the story of the book. That would mean not being afraid to end on a cliffhanger at the end of the first movie (unlike what they did to the Golden Compass).
But knowing Hollywood, they’re just going to make a bad remake with LOTR-like special effects, and without the talent. And like the two already existing sequels, I will have to pretend that it doesn’t exist in order to keep what’s left of my sanity.
Wow… It seems nothing is sacred anymore. I wish Hollywood people would actually be creative and come up with their own shit again. Y’know, like they USED to do. Ugh.

I think geeky die-hard fans all over the world should rise up and take over all these production studios, etc – do it RIGHT when it needs to be done. And not do it at all when there’s just no ‘remake’ about it!
Neverending Story is a legend. This is going to be so offenseive. Let’s start a petition…”80’s Babies Protect Irreplaceable Movies/Books/TV Shows From Evil Powers That Be”
Nice, concise and catchy title, yeah?
(Laugh or cry.)
Guess what? It was my favorite movie when I was a kid too.
But I’m EXCITED about these new adaptations (there’s going to be two back-to-back new movies). Why? Because they are said to be following the book more closely than the original film. If you read the book, you’d see why a faithful version could not have been made in the 80s but can now be.
I bet this new version will be even better than the one I’ve loved all these years.
Along with the remake of the film, I am looking for a producer for The Neverending Story on stage at Javits Convention Center in New York City. Both an opera and ballet score have been composed by Siegfried Matthus. Please refer to my website for more details by following the link below.
