Oh no, What is Happening with Thor?

First of all I have always been a strong supporter of Kevin McKidd to play the Norse God Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s movie, he is directing for Marvel.  Now it looks like Mckidd will not even be in the running! This is the casting call that the casting department has put out for the character Thor, and I don’t like it one bit.

Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20′S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD.

Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film.

First thing I want to point out is I have never imagined Thor as a twenty something year old. If you want to know the way Hollywood envisions a twenty something year old these days just watch The CW. Think of it this way Tom Welling who plays Superman on Smallville is in his twenty’s. Can you imagine him playing Thor? I don’t think so. Unless they cast a twenty something year old guy that looks like he’s in his thirty somethings then this description doesn’t fly with me. Twenty is way to young. But it will fly with the teenage girls.

The other thing I want to point out is in the description they say that want someone with “charming wit”, Is Thor really that charming, even when he is around the ladies? He always seems like a pretty serious guy.

This is too bad. I was all excited about this movie but now my excitement level has dropped.

I always pictured Thor as an elder-statesman type. Somebody that had the wisdom of experience. How much experience is a 20-year-old going to bring to the table? If this was a movie about beer pong then sure but Thor? I don’t think so.

Have you read Matt Fraction’s Ancient Asgard one-shots? A 20-something Thor, who is wild and a bit of a brat, just might work.

Well, in the Ultimate Avengers, Thor seemed pretty young (I’d say somewhere in the 20’s-30’s range), and he DID have a big following of “tree hugger” types. Maybe they’re going for that version?

I would have really liked to have seen Kevin McKidd as Thor, but getting someone that’s less known wouldn’t be so bad.

If they are doing an origin story with him being cast from Valhalla by pops Odin be cause of his drinkin’ and then it would be great! heck half the story could be his regaining of Mjollnir. I like the idea execpt for the fact that I cant think of a single 20 year old actor worth casting.

a golden locked Nathan Fillian (Mal Reynolds) would be great

Dude Von Doom, I have not read that but I will be checking it out! Thanks for the tip!

I think Alexander Skarsgard would make the perfect Thor, though if they’re really looking for a 20 something then he, like Kevin McKidd is out of the running :(
