Snivellus, you are 100% right on. I did set myself up for disappointment, and I hate when I do that, its something I need to work on. As for the Mask how awesome would it be if he had to fetch it from Mt. Doom!

You said it yourself, you went in knowing you were gonna hate the movie and….you came out hating it. You talk about how the original was soooo much better, yet you forget the original is bland and uninventive/derivative too. Time and cult viewings have elevated its status. Continuity? Are you fucking kidding? Pamela/Jason were always seeming to be in multiple places at once. Yes, the MASK is iconic, who the fuck cares how he gets it. Did you want him to fetch it from the fires of Mt. Doom? It’s Jason, it doesn’t need to be epic. The old movies got lame when they screwed with the formula and went for an “upscale” feel. It sounds like you’ve set yourself up for disappointment by elevating something simple to godlike expectations. Facts: Derek Mears was an awesome Jason. The kills while uninventive grounded Jason back into the real world; he’s a slasher and slash he did.Some stuff was downright brutal.Girls getting naked? Yeah, and they were some of the best tits I’ve seen in a mainstream movie in a long time. Kills, Jason, Tits: Yep, success.
This was not a true remake, just a retelling of a legend; kind of like how urban legends get retold a hundred different ways. Lighten up, this movie was a very worthwhile entry into the Crystal Lake campfire legends.
