It Looks Like Judd Apatow is not Producing Ghostbusters 3

As you know word broke on the internet earlier this week from Production Weekly that Judd Apatow would be producing the next Ghostbusters film, but I guess that information is wrong, because LA Times is reporting that he has nothing to do with the movie. They got their information from a pretty reliable source, President of Columbia Pictures Doug Belgrad. He goes on to tell The LA Times:

“We have some great new writers working on a new script, but Judd isn’t involved. Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we’re certainly taking that as a good sign.”

Of course there is internet buzz! This is a film many people are looking forward to getting made.  The first two Ghostbusters movies were directed by Ivan Reitman and starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd who will all be back for the third installment. Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisnberg have been hired to write the new script, and the most of the original films creative team are involved as well as informal consultants on the Ghostbusters 3 project. LA time goes on to say:

For now, the studio is just hoping the writers can figure out a clever way to update the “Ghostbusters” saga. At least the Internet hubbub seems to offer plausible evidence that the franchise’s fan base is alive and well and eager for a new film.

One thing we know about the internet is everyone is looking for a good story so when the rumors start to spread everyone seems to want in on the action. I personally don’t care that Apatow is not involved as long as the movie gets done and done well, thats all that matters to me.
