BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Has Ended… What did you think!?

Last night the last episode of one of the greatest TV shows of all time ended its run and I thought Ron Moore ended it perfectly. I am completely happy and satisfied with the series finale of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ The first half of the show was geek heaven! The whole war that took place with the different Cylon models battling it out was freakin awesome! I thought that whole first half was just intensely fun. The second half was dedicated to wrapping up all of the characters, who they were and what their future is. I don’t want to go into any details in case you haven’t seen it yet, but I thought they did a great job with it, I am sure we will talk about it in great detail on out Live Podcast this Sunday. I am sad the show is over and now my friday nights are going to feel incomplete, but life goes on. I couldn’t have asked for more from the Battlestar Galactica season finale. I Loved it. But I am interested to hear what the rest of you thought of it, so please leave a Rant Back below!

Go ahead and unleash any Spoilers in the Rant Back section. For those of you that have not seen it yet make sure not to read the Rant Backs if you don’t want it to be ruined for you.

So Starbuck and Baltar and 6 were all angels? what?

  2. Randy on March 21st, 09

I couldnt agree with you more. I absolutely loved the series finale. Spoiler alerts! I thought the ending scene with Starbuck and Lee was very interesting…left what happened to your own imagination, which I loved. The scene with William Adama and Laura Roslin had me balling like a baby. I knew it was coming, but it still was a powerful and sad moment…truly my favorite of the episode. I’m a sucker for emotional moments that tug my heart. I loved how they tied the whole opera scenes, as well as how the musical notes tied into to Starbuck’s “angelic” role which also tied so much together; yet, still left much to the imagination. Nice to see how Baltar and Six ended up. The whole finale was completly satisfying. I too am going to miss one of my favorite shows, and yeah…Friday’s will never be the same.

I was utterly impressed by how Ron Moore finished the “Battlestar Galactica” I aggree with the above statement on all accounts. I really can’t think of a better wrap up in any series that has ended, nope not one.

  4. Erroneus on March 21st, 09

I totally agree! I had to let one (maybe more :> ) tear(s) drop during the episode, it was absolutely perfect! I loved the battle and I loved they took the time to finish it off properly and the choice the fast-forward in time to present day on Earth.. was an epic ending.

I think you got snowed and missed what the whole thing was really about. RDM pulled a fast one on fans, and in the end treated them like morons and hammered them with a wishy-washy message about the evils of science and the merits of religion.

Here’s my full take on it:

Since some of you are admitting to getting all teary eyed during the episode I will admit that I got choked up a bit.

  7. Mr. Black on March 21st, 09

We will definitely have to discuss this episode on the next GeekTyrant podcast.

  8. Manos Torgo on March 21st, 09

Look, Ron Moore did indeed pull a fast one. On more than one occasion he has admitted to making things up on the fly. BUT he did wrap things up although in some very un-original ways. I am 80% happy.
But how is it that on Cylon Earth, on the Colonies & our Earth…neck ties came to exist. In 3 separate civilizations?

Also, it is not believable that ALL the fleet would have agreed to spread out and live like hippies. I didn’t buy it and the whole use of angels? Seriously?

We had some good times, good stories. But I won’t pretend that RDM is a genius or that the wrap up was great story telling. It wasn’t it was artificial as a Cylon.

  9. Dr. Venkman on March 21st, 09

Hey Manos and Eric, I think neck ties are a universal principal. I can see how a lot of people may have a hang up with the whole angel angle but, I liked it. They have been building up to that concept from the beginning though. Religion, Science fiction and faith was a main topic through the whole series. Which is why I thought is was a very appropriate ending.

I LOVED the finale – here’s my take on it:

I also posted links to a bunch of other sites recapping it. I definitely recommend reading Alan Sepinwall’s recap.

The show introduced the idea of a higher power & angels forever ago. While I don’t believe in the stuff myself, I thought the way they explained/didn’t explain/handled it over all was amazing, beautiful and classy.

I think it’s odd that a lot of supposed Battlestar fans are pissed off about the finale. It was right on and completed the character arcs in unbelievably satisfying ways, which is WAY more important than the mythology. Especially with this show, it’s always been about the characters and that’s why this finale will be remembered as one of the greatest.

Dialogue = Atrocious (example) Baltar: “You know, I know about farming.” Really Moore?, really? you couldn’t come up with “You know, I’m a farmer’s son” or “You know, I’m a farmer” Come on!

Plot Devices = Artificial (example) The entire Cylon colony is destroyed by a volley of Nukes set off by the errant falling of a dead women’s hand while floating around in her damaged spacecraft. Come on! It would have been better to just have the Old Man double cross the Cylons and set a nuke off himself.

Moral of the Story = Hammered into our brains like we’re toddlers! (example) The corny reading of the paper from over the shoulder of Mr. Moore, and then cutting away to the comical antics of the finest dancing and drum-playing robots Japan has to offer. Really? The whole “This has all happened before, this will all happen again” line that was repeated through the second half of the series wasn’t enough, you had to treat us like children and lay it all out for us?

Lasting Appeal = Endless – Alright, so it’s Battlestar Galactica, and it is an amazing piece of work, from start to finish. Just wish the last episode wasn’t so heavy handed and poorly written :(

  12. Shadownlite on March 21st, 09

Great finale…though I would have ended the show right were “Angel” 6 and “Angel” Baltar went walking down the NYC street in the crowd and not with the dancing robot shot.

But then…it may not have totally worked that way since random dude walking past 6 has to eyeball her because he thought with his penis. It would only have totally worked if no one on the street acknowledged the actors.

Ocverall pretty good, storylines tied up, and it was satisfying.

It could never be perfect for everyone because it is impossible to please everyone all the time.

  13. Adam on March 21st, 09

Ben, you seem to be going out of your way to hate the finale. I thought Baltar’s line was actually quite touching and perfectly delivered. But everyone’s entitled to their opinion…

  14. Shelle on March 22nd, 09

    God it sucked!!!

    >.>

    <..>

I loved it :) I cried like a baby. A hungry angry baby. I think Baltar’s line was the perfect expamle of who he used to be, what he’s not anymore and the fragile and unsureness of who he is now.

All in all, sad, epic, well rounded, well ended.
    YaY.
