JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Update with Director George Miller

Justice League is one of those movies that is just waiting to get made. It has gotten close and then the project was dropped, the timing just wasn’t right. We know that Warner Bros. can develop a great superhero movie with the development of ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Watchmen’. Next up on their superhero plate is the ‘Green Lantern’ which is a film I am really looking forward to, there is also talk of a ‘Superman’ revamp, and who knows what the hell is happening with ‘Wonder Woman’. Fact of the matter is Justice League is a movie that we know is going to happen it is just a matter of when.

Marvel seems to have a great little plan leading up to The Avengers movie, it is only natural for Warner Bros. to want to follow Marvels lead and build up to a Justice League movie. Director George Miller is still attached to direct the project and he talked with MTV briefly about what is going on. He is still confident the movie is going to get made.

“I’m still attached to the film. Warner Bros. is waiting to develop the other characters a little bit and then bring ‘Justice League’ together. After the success of ["The Dark Knight"], it’s well known that they will develop the other characters and then bring them together in ‘Justice League’. That’s a fair way down the track.”

So, the movie will happen, but it looks like we are all going to have to be very patient. Not to worry though, there are tons of movies coming out that will keep out geek minds preoccupied. Although WB wants to develop these other superheros as films before they bring them together for Justice league, I think it will be hard for people to accept the new cast members for the movie. I doubt that some of the actors that are cast in these roles like Christian Bale won’t want to be a part of the Justice League movie. Unless they make them a offer they can’t refuse. So if we watch all these new great WB DC movies and we like the actors and how the heroes are portrayed by them, will we be disappointed when they have to recast everyone for the Justice League movie? Just somthing to rant about.

I like what Marvel is doing and I don’t at the same time.

I think it’s cool to build up to a team-up flick, but it limits the characters in their stand-alone flicks to mere popcorn origin stories in order to introduce them for the later bigger picture (pun intended.)

I like that DC movies/characters have been stand-alone in their own respective worlds (Batman being the prime example) and that their creators have had the freedom to pursue their visions (or in Singer’s case, the freedom to pursue Donner’s vision ;) )

I wouldn’t want to see a Bale bat in the Justice League, or a Nolan-verse JL. It just wouldn’t work. I also don’t want to see a bunch of origin movies that are little more than the same movie over and over with little difference but a new set of tights.

I want to see some great unique visions for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern and the Flash and I want them to look and feel different from the Green Arrow movie and the Martian Manhunter movie and the Aquaman movie etc. etc. I don’t want the directors and costume designers and cinematographers to have their hands tied by the same thread that ties the movies together, just so we can have a bang-up JL movie someday.

I fear the Marvel movies have begun to degenerate into just that, if they haven’t already.

I have hope for the Justice League movie. I think that if they do these background movies and cast all new faces for the big one that it will still be just fine. You can’t realistically expect half a dozen stars to compete for domination of the super-hyped Justice League movie- it would probably be less hectic for everyone if they cast totally new stars with their own original renditions (yet true to the characters of course) of our heroes without worrying about “What would Christian Bale do?”
Who knows? Maybe a star will emerge from the mix that will be able to go one being that super hero and wow us all with unique and original renditions of our favorite hero.

    I disagree Bubba

I have been longing for what Marvel is doing in the movies for nearly 30 years.

Basically ever since I saw Star Wars in 1977 and saw what an episodic serial brought to the big screen could do with continuity, characters and stories within a universe.

Marvel always had that universe. All the Marvel properties that other artists ran with – TV shows, cartoon series and movies always had a disjointed, alternate universe feel to each attempt.

Now that Marvel has grabbed the reigns and signed on actors to multiple series and has some quality production occurring, the possibilities are exciting.

Cameos, cross-overs, inside comic fan references to specific books or events in the Marvel U- all give the movies that extra special touch that makes it feel like Marvel is in the movie business to put out a product that has integrity and not simply shoved out to sell merchandise and exploit the characters and stories we grew up loving and still love.

Tom Welling proved that he can draw people to the movie. He is now going to do season nine on Smallville! Cast him and for sure you have a winner! Wake up Warner Brothers and smell the coffee!

  5. mike on June 3rd, 09

Welling is the only one fit to play Superman. C.W. better get on the ball. If Tom Welling isn't in Justice League why make a movie ?

  6. steven dunetz on July 3rd, 09

Tom Welling would do great at the box office! Why make a movie without Welling because we know him so well! Warner Brothers should get Tom Welling before it's too late? Smallville's new format with Clark flying in season 9 will bring in new viewers and the show can last 5 more years with a follow up to the movie!

I represent an actor (new on the scene) who would be AMAZING in the new Mad Max! Any ideas on how I can get in touch with George Miller?

  8. Garrett Jollands on August 5th, 09

I here all these rumors about who will play the role of superman, ill tell ya, tom welling has played clark kent longer than any other actor and he will bring more people to see the movie than any other actor, granted, he has not yet played the role of superman yet, but he will make you more money, and put more people in the theatre's seats. Same goes for Christian Bale, he is by far the best batman ever and he will make warner bros. and dc comics more money, and thatsall that movie producers care about right?

  9. gghahas on November 11th, 09

Not only will Tom bring in big bucks, he'd be great as Superman, and he deserves it after playing Clark for so many years! I think it's a brilliant idea, but I'm not sure if Tom would be willing to do it, considering he's said Hell No to wearing the tights and stuff on the show. So, I guess WB will have to make him an offer and see if he takes it. God, I hope he does.
