I would have to say James Franco, we already know he looks good in green as goblin, i could just see him boldly sticking his fist up to the sky in a little green mask. That and i don't mind seeing him crunch out a six pack for us onlookers. Thank you Dr!

Dylan Walsh. I think he's so underrated. He can do comedy, he can do serious, he can do justice (har har.) He's slightly older, but he has that youthful vibe to him. Dylan can be sexy and yet turn it 360 and be geeky. He's also got a perfect nose/jaw/chin to fit the mask. Could totally see Walsh as GL.

I say Paul Hamm, even though he's judged to be "too old". Obviously, he looks the part. He's got chops, his recent stints on SNL and 30 Rock showed swagger needed for a cocky flyboy. Iron Man and Downey torpedoed the idea that you need a 20 something hero to be a hit. ALSO... what makes GL unique is that you could do a 3 movie arc with Hamm as Hal Jordan, and THEN introduce a new GL such as Kyle Rayner or John Stewart to take over the franchise. Kind of like Bond, but not only do you swap out the leading man, you swap out the character and keep the series fresh.

i think that picking an actor who already is being used for a comic book character is lame (aaron eckhart). shia lebouf.... i just hate him in everything (including even stevens)! james marsden is too pretty.

green lantern encompassed the all american guy kinda look with a rugged twist... so jon hamm would be perfect as would david boreanaz.

i'm not in this to win tickets... just stirring things up ;)

I think that Aaron Eckert would be a good candidate. He has a history in now in comic book movies, I think he did a hell of a job as Harvey Dent. He has plenty of time since they have effectively killed off Two-Face. He is a good actor, and I think he would make a GREAT Green Lantern

David Boreanaz.
Yes, I know it is a popular thing to say. He has already lent his voice to the role and all. But live action, it really can't get much better than him.
He has the build and the looks for the part. David is a fairly big dude, but not big enough to throw the role off. He is used to acting against green screen (see Angel, in ...well...Angel.) He is self deprecating in that egotistical way that allows me to believe that he could land Ms. Ferris.
But more important that all that, I need to trust in the fact that the man has the will power to control and fire off a piece of jewelery and transform it into the most powerful weapon in the known (and unknown...if we are to believe the little blue men from OA) Multiverse. David, at least for me (and I would like to think the likes of Sir Whedon), instill me with that sense of awe. I mean come on, he already has that "i just crashed your 1 billion dollar test jet, now lets get a few shots and let me hit on your daughter til the JLA calls me in for the latest Starro-fest" smirk...he...is..perfect.

Josh Peck (if you're going with a younger hero)

Josh Peck is a fresh new face - appearing in the acclaimed Dramedy THE WACKNESS... You want a guy who can appear to just have been given a gift of superpowers while learning what it means to be a man? Josh is your Green Lantern!

OR

Nathan Fillion (for the slightly older choice)

Nathan Fillion is meant to be a superhero (as shown in Dr. Horrible) or an anti-hero (as shown in Firefly), inspiring confidence and the definite humor needed for a hero that can make giant green fists.

Aaron Eckhart is my pick for the green lantern. He looks like Hal Jordan. He is a bit older and i can believe that he would be a respected test pilot. He can play serious ala Harvey Dent but great for laughs thank you for smoking.

depending on the green lantern they go with and the time, Bruce Campbell for an older Hal, or terrence howard as Kyle or Jeffrey Donovan for a young Hal,

REALLY... i don't think many people would have been better for it than Cary Grant. Aside from the obvious name connection to me... He is an amazing actor with range emotionally, but can also play physical roles. He is known for being able to stretch comedically, but also lay it hard in the dramatic... not to mention he just looks like a super hero.

As for a today actor... I will toss out there... (kinda a weird one) but i think Ryan Phillippe would be fantastic in the role. He has great range, and his performance in The Way of the Gun makes me want to give it to him right then and there. He is untapped in comic book movies thus far, which is good, and I really think he would be a good fit. Also he isn't a bit enough actor to where all you would see is HIM playing GL instead of GL himself.

Matt Damon

He's proved he can kick butt in the Bourne series. Now it is time for him to play the DC version of the Man Without Fear (it's only fitting since his pal Ben Affleck did the Marvel version with Daredevil.)

Harrison Ford at his prime. There is a certain rugged nobility and code of honor that he personifies. But most important, he can bring levity to dramatic action as well
