If you have not heard yet MGM and the Farrelly brothers are going inot production on a new 3 Stooges movie. To me this is just a strange cast, but at the same time it could work. I think. I’m not even sure so before I go on here are the 3 new Stooges.

Sean Penn has been cast as Larry, which is just insane to me! It has been such a long time since we have seen Penn in a comedy. It will be nice to see him in a comedy role again, I guess we’ll see if he can still be funny. I had heard rumors about Penn being cast but I thought it was too ridiculous to be true.

Jim Carrey is currently in negotiations to play Curly. Personally I think this is a bad call. I’m not a big Jim Carrey fan these days though. I just don’t think he is funny anymore. Of course he has word with the Farrelly brother on both ‘Dumb & Dumber’ and ‘Me Myself & Irene’, so I guess the wanted to work with him again.

Benicio Del Toro is being hunted down to play Moe. That seems like a very interesting choice but one I would love to see happen. Just imagining him play Moe make me chuckle. There were also rumors about Del Toro in this role before Variety got there hands on it.

The film is not a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.

The quest by the Peter and Bobby Farrelly to harness the project spans more than a decade and three studios. They first tried at Columbia, again at Warner Bros., and finally at MGM, where Worldwide Motion Picture Group chairman Mary Parent championed the cause and bought the WB-owned scripts and made a deal with Stooges rights holders C3.

Production will begin in early fall for a release sometime in 2010. The Farrellys, who wrote the script, are producing with their Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas, and Charlie Wessler.

I used to love the Farrelly brother films but there last few films have been pretty lame. I hope they can pull of a really good 3 Stoogers movie. I don’t see how it can be anymore funny than the original shorts. I still laugh my ass off when I watch those old 3 Stooges movies. They are so damn funny.
