So if you have been wondering what Disney’s ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ film is going to look like we have a little taste for you. The photos below are of Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan. I am not sure what to think about this one, I thought the video game was fun but so far everything I have seen for the film has not impressed me. I think Gyllenhall is a really good actor, but I still don’t understand why he is playing this character.
The movie which is based on the popular video game is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and being directed by Mike Newell. These photos were taken on the set of the film and if you look close you can see some of the crew.
So are you looking forward to this movie?

I have a few problems with this movie, first of all… Dastan. Are you fucking serious? If they didn’t feel the need to name the character in the game why give him a stupid ass name like Dastan in the movie? Why not just keep him as ‘The Prince’ and leave it at that. There have been movies in the past where the main character hasn’t had a name.
My other problem (and this is a touchy one) is that why is someone of Persian decent not playing the Prince of PERSIA? I’m sure there are a lot of young, good looking, great actors of Persian decent that could play this role. He is, after all supposed to be the Prince of Persia!
Before people get their knickers in a knot, consider this… would you want a British or Irish or Australian actor playing Captain America? Do we want to go back to the days when any character that was considered as ‘Ethnic’ was portrayed in movies by white men wearing brown face paint? Is Jakey Gyllenhaal really the best they could do when casting this role?

The truth is i do think that Batman is a Hero, and i would probably put him in the superhero status column as well, but to me, a character that resides in a fictional city, doesn’t really count when it comes down arguing about the nationality of the actor playing him. It’s not like Batman is looked at as being an all American Hero, whereas Captain America is.
I just think that when you cast a role and the character is ethnic then that should come into play when you’re picking the actor.
Hey Shelle you make a great argument! In the end Gyllenhaal just looks pretty damn silly as this character.

firs i would like to say that I agree with Shelle… why was there a need to name him Prince Dastan when this character has never had a name!!! and Jake Gylenhaal? really? he doesnt look tough on this pics, he looks like he should be part of Lord of the Dance or some cheesy off broadway musical!!! but in all fairnes, i shall wait for the movie to see if it can convince me or just let me down. not too high expectations reaaly

Neither is Prince "Dastan". Now Just my two cents, i thought Hugh jackman would've been a sick role for the prince.
Wait…I thought the characters name even in the video game was Dastan to begin with?…I dont think that was just added in for no particular reason. I know for one thing that Dastan is a Persian name because I am Persian. I dont know how people feel about him playing a Persian but the other cast members definetly look their part-ben kingsley, alfred molina ( second time for both playing an Iranian by the way).
Stop fucking complaining! Who gives a crud about Captain America of Batman? This is about the Prince of Persia! Would you rather his name be something like Kakulukian (said at the end of the first game, but I think he was kidding… ) ? There's gonna be a movie, they've decided who's gonna be the actor and that's that. Did he look very persian in the game? His voice actor didn't speak persian…
Ace casting, I think this guy'll prob'ly make the prince look awesome!
