STAR WARS Live Action TV Show has Begun casting

I remember a couple years ago Lucasfilm was talking about putting together a live action Star Wars TV series but I have not heard anything about it really until today when I find out they are casting for it. I actually never thought it would happen, I never thought I would see it. The last thing I heard about the TV show was that they would start production until they had 50 scripts under their belt. Now that they are casting I assume the 50 scripts have been written and Lucasfilm is ready to rock n’ roll.
MTV reports that during a press junket for the Alex Proyas film ‘Knowing’ one of the stars Rose Byrne let the cat out of the bag that Lucas is casting a good amount of actors to join the show. Byrne who played Dorme in Attack of the Clones said that “A lot of my friends have been auditioning for it,” So there it is the Star Wars TV Show is actually going to happen!
I am a huge fan of Star Wars and even though I had major problems with episodes 1, 2, and 3 I am still excited for the TV show. I even watch the animated Clone Wars with my kids. But this show sounds like it is going to be pretty good, I have a feeling it will end up being better than the last 3 Films to come out.
According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between “Revenge of the Sith” (Episode III) and the original “Star Wars” (Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. There will be Stormtroopers, but no Jedi or Darth Vader will appear on screen. As he did with the “Clone Wars” series, Lucas will write and shoot an entire year’s worth of episodes before looking for a cable channel on which to air the series. Because he can do that. Lucas has also described it as “Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space” and that it will be darker, grittier, and more character based. I have also heard that there will be several cameos from other major Star Wars characters.
Since casting has just begun and he wants to shoot an entire years worth of episodes before he airs them we have quite a long ass way to go. But, as a fan it is cool to see that this is actually going to get made.

I’m very cautious now when it comes ot anything Star Wars and George Lucas. You can only have your heart broken by a man so many times before you want to slap him in the face with a trout. I’m excited but i’m going to try and keep as open minded and my hopes as low as possible as far as this is concerned, I’m pleased that a live action show is looking like it’s going to be made but it could go very, very worng. I would have loved an Old Republic show! but since the new game has been announced i’m at peace with that
Should be nice, I mean, after all this will be the first live action Star Wars since Return Of The Jedi!! *snicker*
If JarJar isn’t visciously disembowled, I’m not watching. Sorry.
I heard a rumor that Daniel Logan would be back as Boba – he’s a very cool guy, I hope this is true.
So he is making a Star Wars TV series but there will not be any Jedi? WTF?? I can understand the reason for no Vader (James Earl Jones would probably not like to demote himself to TV) but not even a Jedi we have not seen before? I am a little confused.
Hey Mann, Technically the Jedi go into hiding after episode 3 because the sith are out there to kill them. I guess this show wont focus on that. It is hard to avoid the Jedi so who knows that might make an appearance.
Nobby that would be awesome if Daniel Logan came back as Boba! Hope thats true.
Shelle anything Lucas does can go very very wrong. We all know this, we just have to hope for the best at this point, and I think it will be pretty cool. At least I hope it is.
Jamie I don’t want Jar jar anywhere near this not even if they torture him to death.
Snivellus Your absolutely right!
Here’s hoping for a cameo by Sam Witwer (Starkiller from The Force Unleahed)
My main hope is that there is a writer’s room with some heavy freedom given to it. The kind of freedom which will allow for an original product in spirit with the classic Trilogy while advancing the story.
Heck! So far, I have been very impressed with the new Clone Wars show that is on (just about) every Friday night, so if this new show is done in a similar style, with live actors, instead of animation, it should be up to par, who knows? Let’s give it a shot, anything would be better than the poor acting performance that Hayden & Natalie gave us in the prequels! ; )
cant wait for this even though its a long way off,
i can see it being about boba fett and the other bounty hunters.unless emperor lucas has boba in mind for the clone wars cartoon,i think that would be very cool, also sam witwer who played starkiller in the force unleashed made a comment regarding something star wars related, maybe he too will pop up in the live action tv show, fingers crossed for han solo’s younger days to be explored in the tv show.
I just don’t understand why Lucas can’t see KOTOR being a kick ass storyboard for a new generation to be blown away. With a completely different set of characters and an added mystery/thriller twist, 1000 years before anything we know about the Republic, Rebels, or Empire. And the video game has already drawn so much interest. He could actually make an entire trilogy out of it. Bastilla would be a welcome change to the typical Leia/Padme role. The “I am Reven” would be the next “I am your father”. So much potential. I agree, not having Jedi or Sith kind of underscores the good vs evil, mythical hero, trademark Star Wars attraction. Lightsabres are a must.

I don't agree that lightsabers are a must, or the jedi and sith that weild them. If you've ever read the x-wing series by Stackpole and Allston, a live-action show about an x-wing squadron would be kick-ass! There's plenty of heroes to focus on that can't use the force. I'm super excited about this show, I just hope Lucas can keep his grubby little fingers off the project and let the writers have some freedom (LOST style).
I was jazzed when I heard there was going to be a tv series. I was under the impression that George was staying out of the process, now I read in this article that HE is going to direct the first season?
Didn't he learn from Ep 1-3?? Come on George, people that don't learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them! Are we going to be assaulted with Oscar worthy lines like "it's Obi Wans fault! He's holding me back!" Let it go George. Let one of the SW novelists take the helm. PLEEEEEEEEZE!
