TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Are Coming Back!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming back in 2011 and they will be back live-action style! This is not the first time we have heard about this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle come back  we actually reported on this and confirmed it way back in September 2008. You can read that article here. I guess the news has finally hit main stream. That makes sense to hold out on the news for the 25th anniversary celebration which will kick off on Thursday in New York at the Tribeca Film Festival. Variety reports:

The Mirage Group, which owns the property, is moving forward with a live-action film focusing on the origins of the iconic crime fighters. Project, targeted for release in 2011, would mark the fifth big screen outing for the sewer-dwelling heroes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael as well as their master Splinter.

Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing the new pic alongside Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 computer-animated “TMNT” pic, the most recent installment in the franchise. Peter Laird, Gary Richardson, Frederick Fierst, Eric Crown and Napoleon Smith III are exec producing the film, which is based on the characters created by Laird and Kevin Eastman.

TMNT was created in comic book form back in 1984. This spawned a great animated show that I use to watch all the time, and four movies. Three live-action and one CGI animated, which I thought was pretty good. I love the fact they they are going back to the original comic book source material. It is much darker than what we have come to know of the Ninja Turtles over the last few years. They actually want to take it to the level of what ‘Batman Begins’ was.

I can’t wait for this new movie to be made! I couldn’t be more excited to see our favorite Ninja turtles back in action! My favorite Ninja Turtle growing up was Donnetello. A bow staff was the only weapon I could get my hands on as a kid. Who was your favorite Ninja Turtle character?

Donatello of course, name similarity was a real strong factor as a kid. but i LOVED the Turtles as a kid, i still have notebooks filled w/ drawings of them, & i dont’ draw lol

great news, thanks, i’m gonna RT this link right now

Awesome news, my only hope is the don’t make the turtles CG, they should team up with the production design people from Hell Boy 2. I’m a Leonardo fan, always have been and always will be!

  4. Mann is the Man on April 23rd, 09

Great news! I watched the show growing up and have seen all of the movies too. Let’s hope they do not bring back Vanilla Ice! I am glad they are going back to live action. My favorite turtle when I was young was Michelangelo, but my new favorite is Rafael because he is the ant-hero, the only turtle out of the bunch that has human emotions.

Donatello was the man! Didn’t hurt when I started training in martial arts my instructor was a fighting double for him in 2 and 3.

what i would really is if their payed by people who sound nothing like the original voices…the last thing we would want is Mikey sounding like a guy who hates his job and doesn’t want to be there

In terms of weapon i would say Leo but as a character Raph. I loved that he had an attitude and was moody and rebellious. The most ‘relateable’ of the 4 I think.

Mikey never made sense to me. He talked like a ’surfer dude’ but he was from New York. Nunchucks kick ass though!

I am really glad they are going to the original comics, that Eastman and Laird did, for this. Those had a much better and a pretty dark story unlike what most people seem to be familiar with… ‘the cartoon version’

always liked michaelangelo as a kid, had lumps from the nunchuks to prove it, but as I got older I identified more with raphael.
