Matthew McConaughey cannot be CAPTAIN AMERICA

Hell No! We have got to put a stop to this right now before it get’s out of hand! As you know Marvel is making a Captain America film being directed by Joe Johnston. This movie has the potential to be a brilliant superhero movie, but if Matthew McConaughey get cast as the Captain I am going to have to raise hell like no one has ever raised hell before.

All of a sudden good ol Matthew likes the idea of playing Captain America. It was rumored a while back that he was in the running to play the great American superhero. When approached about it at the time of the rumor he said that he was not a big comic book reader, “but that’s a super cool name — Captain America.” So first of all it sounds like he didn’t even know who the guy is. Now his name is being thrown out into the Hollywood winds, hopefully the Marvel executive keep their windows closed so it doesn’t get in.

Thank the high heavens that he has not been sent a script, but he does say that playing Captain America “sounds fun” now. And Jennifer Garner doesn’t help in any way shape or form when she says:

“You would be a great Captain America. You could wear a cape and tights and little pointy shoes.”

What in the hell is she talking about!? She obviously isn’t a big comic book reader either.

Look, I just hope people stop asking him about this Captain America casting business. I would think Marvel is smart enough to go with this guy. But to be on the safe side I am just getting the word out there that Matthew McConaughey will not play Captain America, because he would ruin the movie.

OK? OK. Bye.

Nathan Fillion for Cap. Matthew McConaughey would be terrible.

  2. DB on April 27th, 09

Idk, he was pretty badass in Reign of Fire. It’s tough to call.

  3. Jack on April 27th, 09

Ray Stevenson for Capt America… its not like I expect many more Punisher movies..

  4. Jason on April 27th, 09

I fully agree with Vee. Fillion would rule as the Cap. I think an online petition is in order!

  5. Mr. Black on April 27th, 09

Damian Lewis would be the perfect Captain America….even though he is British.

  6. stones on April 27th, 09

I gotta go with Nathan Fillion. I think he’d be awesome in the role.

  7. wimpyisdead on April 27th, 09

Dear DB, it is NOT a toucgh call, and for your answer, I think you are banned from posting here ever again.

    Nathan Fillion fo sho’!

  8. Sonny on April 27th, 09

Down with Matt at least on thsi movie he would eff it up..
I agree with teh reign of fire comment he was aweseom but different type of role……Whose the dude that played 2 face in Batman he would be good I bet..

  9. Dave on April 27th, 09

I may be in the minority here, but why does an actor have to know the character before reading the script in order to play them? They’re paid to act, not wax poetic on Kirby and Simon and what it means to be Steve Rogers. At Least MM has the look, and has some acting chops. He’s no Paul Sorvino or Robert Downey Jr. but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in a role and thought that he was cast wrongly.

  10. Josh on April 27th, 09

Well of course he’s never been cast wrongly. He’s only cast in pretty boy/douche roles! His “acting chops” are perfect for that. But if he plays Cap….it may be the first superhero movie I’ve ever boycotted.

  11. Kenny on April 27th, 09

I think Matt Damon would be better as Cap

  12. Anonymous on April 27th, 09

MM would be bad purely because he can’t get rid of that fake, pretty boy southern accent. I mean, if you’re from the south do you have to fake a southern accent.

  13. JackpotCityOnlineCasino on April 27th, 09

I agree with you. i have boycotted other movies, and I waiting to see if they killed Deathpool in wolverine. if they do, they are not going to see my hard to get dollars.

  14. SaltireFlower on April 27th, 09

Oh, God no. He’s only done about two remotely interesting films, and he drives me utterly insane. Can’t understand what other women see in the guy. I’d love to see Jon Hamm cast even though he’s probably seen as too old.

  15. Dave on April 27th, 09

you might have missed him in Amistad, Contact, U-571, A Time to Kill, or The Newton Boys – you’re buying into his typecasting, rather than actually looking at things he’s done and what he’s capable of.

  16. Shadownlite on April 27th, 09

Some of the worst casting EVER!

  17. Azreal71 on April 28th, 09

Are all of you blind AND dumb? look at this pic with MM holding to the sheild! Now tell me…who the hell else could possibly play that part besides MM? Nathan Fillion? Hell no! If not Ryan Reynolds for DeadPool I think Nathan would have been ideal for that part but for a role like this? I want someone that can be serious and not a-hole sarcastic, Think about his character in Reign of Fire…He was a crazy bad-ass in that movie! I agree with Dave but Dave you missed another flick…how about MM in Frailty and We Are Marshall? who say’s this gut can’t act? I find it strange that dumb asses on here want to pick a Canadian to play CAPTIN AMERICA?! Are you serious? Hell Taylor Kitsch could have been a good choice also but hell….HE’S CANADIAN! damn America can’t produce anything except bad cars, economy, sitcoms, fast foods and the Fox News channel!

  18. Alexa on April 28th, 09

Here’s a thought: Mark Valley. Look him up– he looks exactly like Cap, AND he graduated from WEST POINT, and served in Desert Storm. You heard me, the guy’s a real life VETERAN. Why get some Hollywood pretty boy when you can get a REAL soldier?

  19. Vulcan2422 on April 28th, 09

I like how you’ll raise hell about this movie, but you’ll still see it none the less. Just like when you ranted and raved about Wolverine:Origins ruining deadpool, but your still going to see it. It makes no sense. Like The Chewbacca Defense.

  20. Greg on April 28th, 09

Alexa, Mark Valley could be good for the role. I have liked what he has done in the past, but …..
He’s too old and looks it. There would be a ton of the “young Magneto” CG needed for Mark to be the weakling, young Steve Rodgers. I could see Mark as the unfrozen Cap, but Mark looks his 45 years. I think we need someone who looks 30 at the oldest.

    randy coutre = cap america

  22. Jerasica on April 28th, 09

I’m sorry I have my heart set on fillion being Ant Man. He would be the best Hank Pym.

  23. Miller on May 3rd, 09

As far as Captain America goes, I’ve thought about it for a long time…years, in fact. Any comic book fan has had a debate or two over the course of their life about which actor would make the best super hero cast.

I’d like to put my two cents in for Jensen Ackles. (He’s had a support role in Smallville at one point and a main role in the t.v. series, Supernatural as Dean Winchester.)

  24. Miller on May 3rd, 09

May I add – whatever the case may be, this is a very important stepping stone for Marvel and the powers-that-be. If they screw up the casting of Captain America, it very well may ruin the future prospects for further comic-to-life movie adaptations.

I, for one, am excited to finally see all my fantasies of what comics-as-movies would be like, regardless of how poorly done some of them were. It’s still nice to see geeks stick it to hollywood flashy pantsers.

  25. deathsauce on June 15th, 09

it needs to be a blue eyed no-name. i cant think of anyone to play him, but it needs to be someone who can go from the regular soldier look to the bulked up CAP look!
