McG Talks about his Crazy Idea for TERMINATOR 5
Terminator Salvation is upon us. Soon we will get to see John Connor battle it out with the evil robots that take over the world. It’s no surprise that the movie is going to be a huge hit, and that we are going to get another sequel. McG has been hyping up some kind of controversial ending to his Terminator movie but it can’t be as insane as what his plans are for Terminator 5.
Here is what McG told Film Journal:
I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011. John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than [just] one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he’s going to meet a scientist that’s going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves.
What in the hell!? Is it just me or does this just sound crazy? So pretty much the future is going to come through and take over our present day? If Skynet is sending a bunch of crazy ass robots into the past then isn’t that just speeding up the inevitable Judgment day? I really need a better explanation of what McG is talking about to understand the full concept. One thing I know for sure is that in Terminator 3, Judgment Day happens in 2004, not 2011. So what happens in that seven years? Unless they just forget Terminator 3 actually happened. And don’t you think Skynet’s technology is so far advanced that our modern day military wouldn’t have a chance? Maybe some of the weapons featured on the show ‘Future Weapons’ would have a chance.
OK what do you think everyone? talk to me.

Wow. This seems just a little over my head to get.
I’d rather John Connor go back in time and become Batman.
I am against this idea. I liked that this trilogy was supposed to take place in the apocalyptic future. this concept kind of ruined that.
p.s. 2011 is when Judgment Day happens in Sarrah Connor Chronicles. also…. in my opinion THIS is the 3rd movie.
If we’re forgetting about T3, then he needs to quit calling this movie he’s creating Terminator 5. It’s Terminator IV: The Quest for Peace.
The Army vs. time traveling Skynet? Stem cell immortality? This sounds like a completely different movie. This doesn’t make sense. Hell that first part sounds like a twisted Transformers movie. This needs a lot of explaining.
What I want to know is who is he going to get to play the scientist who “looks a lot like present-day Robert Patrick?” Robert Patrick is going to be so pissed when he hears about this.

I’ve got a good feeling about “Salvation”– I don’t think McG is stooge by any means. But that statement above makes no freakin’ sense! I’ll reserve judgment (ah, see, pun!) for a later time.
I really ope he has ignored T3 and gone with the TSCC storyline. Anyone else want to see Glau on the big screen? Maybe travelling through time? Man she could have my boots and clothes anytime.
Dist I agree 100% TSCC is amazing. I hope it doesn’t get canceled.
And we really haven’t had enough of Summer on the big screen. Serenity was so good that I need more.
this idea sucks my balls. why does he get to write this? i mean, i think we could all put together a cool idea as a team and write it, and it would kick that idea’s ass. i know the future is an expensive budget to film, but that really just takes a big ol’ shit, doesn’t it?
Its a good concept but it should remain in the future
my god. i sincerely hope this was a may’s fools day joke. there is no way i would pay to see that movie and all of a sudden, i’m very afraid for what salvation will do to the mythology. i was a fan of TSCC, T1, T2, and even T3 (despite its’ flaws). i really wish they’d pass on this crap and give TSCC a third and maybe fourth season instead.
I’ve actually been trying to forget Terminator 3 happened for some time now. I don’t blame McG for trying to do so as well. It wasn’t the best of the Trilogy – it seemed somewhat slapped together, and … well, really damn silly.
I’m curious to know why he’d want to go backward in time again, though. It seems it’s just a better idea to keep going forward, and tell us what happens after this year’s film.
Ok but McG you better have Summer Glau in terminator 5 and 6
ROFL Xander. That was a good one.
This idea is ridiculous. More than that, it's redunkulous. It demonstrates zero respect for the franchise, and if he's serious, then it's the height of arrogance to basically retcon everything that came before out of existence.
That being said, I really hope he's kidding.
Terminator 5 comes out in 2011 so just wait until then
And i think John Connor dies in it
Things are begining to get hairy…I'm glad Salvation was good, but Terminator 3 was really just silly. It lacked everything the other films had, unlike the new film which brought in a new, interesting feel. However, this idea for Terminator 5 doesn't make sense if Judgement Day was in 2003 or 2004.
This is really scary. I have been going on message boards and praising McG for making a pretty good movie with Salvation and now I see this. Well this certainly changes things. If he is serious and that's where he wants to take the series then I hope the studio doesn't bring him back next time. Why go back to 2011?! I thought the whole point of this new trilogy was to go forward. To show John’s war against the machines in the future. To show how John and Kyles destinies play out together. To show Kyle sacrifice to go back in time. And to show how John wins the war. Why the hell would they waste the next movie going back. There is so much to do from where they left off in Salvation. John just finally met his father. I don’t get why we would go back to 2011. I really enjoyed Salvation but that sounds like it would totally ruin the new series. The sequel should focus on John finally taking control of the resistance and his growing relationship with Kyle. They should be setting up the seeds for why Kyle goes back in time. Have John give Kyle his Moms picture and all that. They should introduce that skynet is experimenting with time travel. But they definitely shouldn’t have John go back to 2011. It really blows me away how anyone could think that would be a good idea. Also 2011 isn't pre-judgement day. Judgement day was in 2004 as seen in Terminator 3. So why the hell would John Connor time travel to 2011? It's totally stupid. If anyone with creative control reads this then DON'T DO IT! Terrible idea.
The new idea is tottally wrong for T5
! Terrible
! If they wasting the time for traveling back trought time again…..:(….then when are we going to see those scenes when:
-Reese going back in time? – And Arnold when he protected John in T2????
And they have to keep some basic rule: ( John stays in the future – No time traveling until Kyle Reese will, – just one and living organizm can travel throught time, ) ANd yes! I agree with the previous guy! They should focusing the relationship of Kyle and John, and make the movie more horroristic, as it was in the T1 or in the T2….Put a little more Machines in the next movie, and show us some scene for example: how the infiltrators got closer to a base and infiltrate there, and the birth of the new project: T-1000 . So all things considered: we want to see the future with the rule of J.Cameron's ideas, and not jumping here and there with the story and those crazy ideas….I really hope this T5 story will not be born…It would be the shame of Terminator franchise as the T3 was …
i think the idea is a 50/50 i think it would be awsome but i like it better in the future war if they go to 2011 that would mess up the whole story they could send resistance fighters to 2011 and have a hafe and hafe story but not sending john conner
What a ridiculous idea! Why wouldn't Skynet just send its self back in time to around 800 BC? Paradox? Don't give me that. It depends on which time travel theory you believe in; time is changed and flows along the new future sending waves of change through space-time, or time splits and you are now following the new branch that you created. I think we need to drive on into the future and get to the point where Skynet sends the first Terminator back. I was disappointed that they killed off Marcus Wright in T4. Another problem I had was with the spur of the moment heart transplant with no regard for tissue type, but I'm willing to concede that there may have been technology that allowed that to happen. It would be nice to see a group of robots advance far enough into their IA to rebel against Skynet at some point. Don't due time travel again unless you have some kind of revelation that will raise the hair on the back of our necks!
Go back in time to 2011?Stupid idea, without respect to real fans who want to see event like sending terminators in time, creating T-1000.The idea would be a slap in face to REAL fans.I've watched the seqeuel dozens of times and it's a masterpiece.Even T-3 wasn't that bad as some say.But please someone let know McG or somebody in charge not to make a huge mistake!
Jesus. . . you got to be f$#%$# kidding me! Who the hell is this guy? If he makes this kind of money being a director – I'm the next James Cameron! No really guys. . . I am! Everyone knows that the ONLY REASON we all went out to see Salvation was for the prospect of seeing the future war. I mean, what the hell is the point of bringing it back to the present day? Again? And Again? And now, wait for it. . . AGAIN! Come on – please McMoron, stop being a lazy bastard and give the fans what 1. they want and 2. what they paid for. P.S. You suck as a director – get another day job brother.
I don't think this is a good idea, I agree with previous comments keep it in the future war with John and Kyle. Show John taking control of the resistance and fighting the infiltrators I like the idea of T-1000 orgins as long as you keep focusing on earlier Terminators fighting the resistance and Skynet developing Time displacement technology. Basically I'd like to see this trilogy wrap up with Kyle going to the past to save John's mother. So in theory you could watch any film first and just go along in ascending order.
This idea is completely idiotic. I think most fans want to see what happens in the future, how the technology progresses to the advanced weoponry we see in the first 3 films. How does John Connor become the leader, how does his relationship develop with Kyle Reese? For God's sake don't include time travel again. Stay away from that – explain how Skynet develops time travel, sure, show John sending the T-800 back to save himself, okay. Stay on the timeline, support the first 3 movies, don't ruin the entire story. Have a new antagonist besides Skynet, the story is wide open. We only saw bits and pieces of the future in the first 3 films. Audiences want to see what actually happened in the futre. McG, please listen to the ones who pay to see these movies and dont ruin it.
McG must be joking, and if not he must be on crack when he said this. I hope Christian Bale takes a look at the script when its done and throws it back in McGs face. For everyone's sake I hope this is a joke.
Mr. McG sir, if you're reading this, you have definitely made a fan out of me. I watched T-3 after watching Terminator Salvation, and you made T-3 look like a goofy Disney film. Your first installment to the franchise actually made perfect sense, and is a great way to start a new trilogy. PLEASE…PLEASE…PLEASE make sure you explain everything clearly in T-5 if you opt to send Connor back to our time, because it was explained in T-3 that Judgment Day commenced in 2004. Please explain why the delay happens, or cancel T-3 as an installment altogether by changing events via time travel to explain why the delay occured. I don't mean any disrespect to your craft, but please try to make T-5 as "James Cameron" as possible, like you did with T-4. I enjoyed the Danny Elfman score, either keep Danny Elfman, or hire Brad Fidel to score T-5 please. If you do send John back in time, please send a new Terminator that has as much star power as Arnold if Arnold's not on board. Send back a new Terminator that looks like a present day Sylvester Stallone, or Jean Claude Van Damme (not really, but you know what I mean).
I have a really bad feeling McG is not kidding so I hope he looks at these message boards and seriously takes a hint. I've been in a few and at least this one seems to have people in it that know what they are talking about. It would be a serious mistake to go back in time, these next couple of films should be about the future war not the past. It would be nice to see more of the war between man and machine, and I must admit the game had much more action than the movie. I was a bit disappointed on only seeing a few terminators. I hope the next one has the T800 series, don't forget there were several different faces for this model not just one. But if some one could please tell me why in TS they were after Kyle. They shouldn't have even known about him yet and they were after him. Anyway I guess we have to hold our breath on the next film.
i think mcg want to mke a different storyline because the movie did say the future is not set maybe mcg want to make skynet want to start this war early in t5.and maybe he will also make that john connor will not sent kyle back but he success on stoping the t 101 from pass into the time machine because this is a good way to make the film movie foward rather than move back forth but who knows what mcg has plan.as far as i concern i want to see more john connor in action rather than an unknown character
mcg is one of the worst directors of all time. james cameron needs to gain the rights back, and let him make decisions on who gets to do it or not
