Movie Review: CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE

Crank 2: High Voltage was the most ridiculously insane over the top movies I have ever seen. Ever! This movie starts off like it is on speed and then continues to race faster and faster, jump higher and higher, taking every possible hyper speed upper illegal drug on the market to the point where the movie becomes a blur of high –strung everything you can think of and more.

I really enjoyed the first movie and I thought this one was going to be along the same lines and it was for the most part during the first half of the film. The second half of the movie was on warp speed and for the life of me my eyes couldn’t keep up with what was happening on the screen. This movie could put people in seizures.

The movie literally plays out like a video game. Chev Chelios’ heart is stolen and was replaced by a battery powered artificial heart that will keep him alive so they can take out his other functioning organs. He says to hell with that and the movie begins. Throughout the movie he has to keep finding ways to keep his heart electrically charged to keep him alive as he hunts down the people that stole his heart. Along the way he comes in contact with some of the most annoying people on the planet.

The movie starred Jason Statham who was jacked up, Amy Smart who was dirty, David Carradine who was Poon Dog, Corey Haim was perfect for the role he played, Efren Ramirez who was not Pedro, Dwight Yoakam was a douche, and Ling Bai needed to die. What’s the point of mentioning their acting abilities in a movie like this?

For me the biggest problem with ‘Crank 2: High Voltage’ was that it is so over the top and absurd. The filmmakers did everything they could to push the audiences limit in terms of being offensive and I think they succeeded in that aspect. If people thought the date rape scene in ‘Observe and Report’ was bad they are going to love how they treat women in this. This movie has no class at all. At the same time you can’t look away. Well, that’s not entirely true there was a scene involving male nipples that I just couldn’t watch.

I normally like these kinds of movies and except them for what they are, but for some reason I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Sure, I had a few laughs, and there is obviously a bunch of crazy ass action to enjoy, but ultimately it was so mentally unstable and so fast paced that I didn’t really didn’t care for it. It’s a movie I never need to watch again. I will say though that it was crazy a wild ride.

Now to those of you that liked the first Crank and are looking forward to watching the sequel, just because I felt this way about it doesn’t mean that you won’t like it. But, I know you will see what I am talking about.

If you’ve already seen it or plan on seeing it let me know what you thought about it after you watch it. I’m interested to hear other people’s opinions.

Seen it yesterday, but I have to half-dis- and agree with you. I really loved the first Crank, watched it about 20 times.

But Crank 2… man I freaking LOVE it. IMO it’s the best movie sequel ever made in movie history. Well, not from the story or the acting, but if you look back at Crank.

I loved the speed, though I’ve been throwing out of it at the Talkshow-scene which I dislike, but it was ok because of what you’ve got explained there.

So, ya, it was damn straight over the top – but exactly that’s it what I liked about it.

    greetings

I’m going to have to agree with Zeis. I loved this movie as much as, if not more than the original Crank! It was so ridiculous that it was awesome. I wanted it to be crazy and over the top and that is what I received. Bravo to this film!

Saw this at 11:30am showing… me and four other people! I snuck in a flask of rum and I. LOVED. EVERY. MINUTE.
The movie really feels split down the middle, the first half being the usual Statham rampaging around and the second half
(about the point where they reach the power sub-station, hope that’s not giving anything away)
is the breaking point for people who may just say, “this is really stupid” (i.e. most people) and “this is insanely awesome” (i.e. me). I hope this movie does well, but I realize that this type of R-rated looney toons action film is not everyone’s cup of cocaine.

P.S. Venk- your comment about this being a video game is very spot on. This is quite possibly the best “video game” movie not based on an actual video game.

Everything is better with rum lol. I want to see it, but i wouldn’t spend the money to see it in theatres. I own the first one, and it is awesome. Even though the premise of the sequel is ridiculous (not that the first was any less convoluted), it seems like it would be good for a laugh.

    haha

So it looks like everyone is really loving the film. Man, I wanted to enjoy it so much more and for some reason I didn’t. Maybe it was because I hit up the midnight show and I was kinda tired. I am just torn with this one, at the same time it was everything I expected it to be, but even more insane.

filmgeekben – your right, this is the best video game movie not actually based on a video game. I could see myself playing it while i was watching the movie.

Wow. Well, I’m glad so many people liked this. I HATED this movie. Yes, there were parts where I laughed. Yes, there were some great action sequences. But the action wasn’t so great that it made up for the pure idiocy of the rest of the film. I think the worst part about it was it wasn’t fun. You’re not expecting Citizen Kane out of a movie like this, but it should at least be fun. It wasn’t fun. It was two or three good scenes surrounded by tired jokes you’ve seen before and some grossness just for the sake of being gross (the nipples) and that’s it. I was disappointed.

Yeahhhhhhhhh. This is probably one of THE MOST insane movies I have ever seen. I can’t say whether I liked it or disliked it…and it’s been a week since I watched it! I’ll say this, I definitely couldn’t look away (yes, the nipple scene was just plain UGLY), and even when I had no idea WTF I was looking at, I can’t say I wasn’t entertained…I agree 100% that this was a video game movie, from the credits to the ending, and had we been PLAYING these parts, it would’ve been kickass…but as a movie, I just sat there going WTF am I looking at???

My only real problem with this movie was the fact that they never addressed the main, fundamental issue of the movie…even with all of the insanity that Chelios is capable of, how directly the $@#% did he not only survive the ending of the first one, but literally WALK AWAY without ANY internal damage????? I mean, COME ON, MAN!!!

Anyway, if you’re in the mood for a literally INSANE ride with lots of frenetic and chaotic activity, this has your name written all over it.

i hope they DO NOT make another one. I loved the first one, I even Love the second one..but a third movie is just plan stupid. Theres no way i’ll believe that he fell from the helo, exploded off a telephone wire with 3rd degree burns and even lose his heart just to find some more people to kill..it’s too much.
the movie itself was exactly what i paid to see..i only hated the godzilla fight..wtf

Totally barking mad – I loved it.
Now I have a kick-arse trilogy to watch on cold Sunday afternoons: Crank, Shoot ‘Em Up and Crank 2 – hurrah!
