Ridley Scott Toying with the idea of an ALIEN Prequel!?

Any movie geek would absolutely love it if Ridley Scott came back to us a new ‘Alien’ film. All of a sudden there is talk that this is an actual possibility. How awesome would it be to have Scott come back and make a new ‘Alien’ film! The film is to be a prequel. It’s such a fantastic scenario that I just don’t think it will ever happen. But here is what FOX Co-chairman Tom Rothman had to say regarding this Alien Prequel.

“There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.”

It doesn’t sound like he has even talked to Ridley Scott about this. There’s no doubt Rothman wants this to happen, but like the rest of us all he can do is hope and keep his fingers crossed. The question is, will Scott want to work with FOX? I know Scott has talked about making a prequel that would dive into the origins of the space jokey and the Aliens. There was even a point where James Cameron was writing up an origin story for a fifth Alien film, but he dropped it when he heard about Aliens Vs. Predator getting the green-light. Thats just another reason to hate the AVP movies. It killed the hope of another James Cameron version.

If Ridley Scott jumped on board to develop a new Alien film though, that would just be some of the best news ever. I’d really like to see it happen, but I wont hold my breath. What do you think are the chances of this happening?

An Alien prequel? That could be even better than the original. This is fantastic. I’m sure that he doesn’t even need to talk to Ridley Scott. He just knows he is on board for this, I mean, who wouldn’t be? I wonder if they could find a woman who looks like a young Sigourney Weaver. Oh man this is gonna be awesome!

A prequel is the way to go, there is so much enigma in the mythos of Alien. But, I would hate to see it go the way of Star Wars. Once we knew that Anakin was an annoying brat that grew up to be a wooden plank, it kinda took the edge off of the originals!

it wont have a young ripley. the timelines already set. it would most likely have to do with the origin of the aliens themselves and the ship and (dead) crew, that was discovered already crash landed, in Alien.

If the prequel had a younger Ripley, I’m not sure if there would be any aliens in it, as Ripley didn’t meet any aliens until the first film. Basically, it’d be about Ripley and her boring life aboard the Nostromo, getting annoyed with Brett and Parker. Captain Dallas and Lambert would have a thing going on. Ash the secret android would be reclusive and spend most of his time in the sick bay. And Kane would walk around looking tired and smoke. There would be a lot of smoking. Jones the cat could provide stand-up and comic relief. It sounds like a different movie altogether.

Anyway, the thing is they’re always talking about another Alien film and thinking about it and talking more about it. I agree that a prequel is the way to go, as the series has gone so far into left field, and this would be a way to reboot the series and carry it into a different direction (i.e., no Ripley, but make a passing reference to the Nostromo, and take a different direction away from Ripley’s story). I hope, however, that all the mystery is not answered by a prequel. But it would need some sort of scene comparable to the chest-burster scene of the first film.
