Lucas is a master of special effects, probably the best. The cast is first rate, and I am a big fan of Cuba Gooding. My problem however, is that this is "fictional." As a deep student of WWII Aerial Combat history, the premise this story is being built on is insulting. It's insulting to the 332nd pilots that really flew in the 15th Air Force based out of Italy; and it is especially insulting to the 8th and 9th Air Force of the European Theater of Operations (ETO); not to mention the RAF, who showed their mettle in the Battle of Britain. Seems to me that Lucas was looking for a vehicle to show his computer graphics expertise for "really cool" dogfighting, and the old prejudice cross had to be carried for a theme because the script premise wasn't creative enough; in spite of the talent that's involved. Good people seem to be taking an easy way out to produce a high impact graphic exercise at the expense of history that never happened. Yes, the 332nd suffered prejudice, but in the context of WWII aerial combat as it really happened, it is a shame such an easy, limp premise is being chosen to build a script around, when both the REAL 332nd, and the real history of the real pilots deserved much better. Because those great stories are there, and reality is always better than "fiction."

I am known among my friends as a George Lucas Apologist because I love the complete 6 Episode Star Wars Saga. After Episode III, George Lucas said that he was planning on making films that the mainstream studios wouldn't buy but that he wanted to make anyway. He wanted to make films that he thought mainstream America wouldn't like (THX 1138). I have been waiting to watch these films because I loved THX too. Now finally, George is keeping his promise of making films outside of Star Wars again. I love Star Wars and it is my life, but the Saga is over and I want more from George. I am very excited about Red Tail.

This is interesting to hear and I look forward to seeing this when it comes out. Hopefully it will be *way* better than Pearl Harbor.

Oh, in the sentence before the second quote you have the following line:

"The director of the film McCallum says:"

Isn't McCallum the producer with the director being Anthony Hemingway?
