DEADPOOL Spin-Off Movie is a Go

Well, it’s official, 20th Century FOX has officially started development on the Deadpool spin-off movie. This is something we all wanted to see as much as I thought the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ sucked, Deadpool Wade Wilson was the best part. I’m not sure how well a Deadpool spin-off film can be at this point since Fox jacked up the character by giving him all of those mutant powers. At the end of some of the Wolverine movie prints you get to see that Deadpool is still alive. Fox knew they were going to develop and Wolverine sequel and a Deadpool spin-off, based on the two different ending they attached at the end of the movie.

It’s no secret that Deadpool is one of my favorite characters, and for many of you he is one of your favorites as well from the X-Men universe. If you don’t know much about who Deadpool is from the comic books Click Here, Marvel gives a great in depth view of who this character is and how he is really supposed to be portrayed. For example one of the main reasons that Wade Wilson found out that he had contracted cancer. In Canada, he was offered hope in the form of Department K, a special weapons development branch of the Canadian government. Wilson became a test subject in Department K’s branch of the joint U.S./Canadian superhuman enhancement project, the Weapon X Program; his cancer was temporarily arrested via the implantation of a healing factor derived from another Department K agent, the mutant adventurer Wolverine. From this alteration experiment he was made into an indestructible anti-hero.

Ryan Reynolds is the perfect actor to play this character, I only hope that they can build a decent story around him. There is a ton of stuff to work with, but just look at how Wolverine ended up. Yes, Reynolds will reprise his role as Wade Wilson A.K.A. Deadpool. So at least we have that to look forward to.

As a producer on the film I really hope Marvel jumps in the production in a big way to make sure this movie gets steered in the right direction. What do all of you think? As awesome as Deadpool is, are you still excited to see it even though Fox will be making it?

I'm really torn about this because on the one hand I loved Ryan as Wade but on the other hand…Baraka claws and optic blast are not cool so this could really go either way. As of right now I'm hoping for the best.

Deadpool and Wolverine are my favourite two from the X-Men universe. I'm excited to see the spin-off but am worried about how fox will handle it. Especially with the end of the origins movie. I guess we can only wait and see,

  3. Deadfool on May 7th, 09

    EFFFF YEAH!!
Ryan did great and he'll do great again.
I just hope they land some genius writer and director that can clean up this FOX Deadpool.

  4. Jerasica on May 7th, 09

Excited because Reynolds really is the best person to play him. The first fifteen- twenty minutes were my favorite, in Wolverine, because of him and his smart-ass comments. I loved it. I too hope that Marvel steps in and makes a stand as to how it will be handled and such.

If you really know deadpools story, he origanly did not have the healing factor but it was givin to him because he had cancer, but the cancer and the healing factor mutated to gheter and screwd wade wilsion up. also he can telaport but he never had addimantuim or optic blast
    he is scarred up.

@mudd86: You really need to learn how to spell. We all (or most of us–I hope) know Wade Wilson's backstory and completely understand how much Fox screwed him up. I think a Deadpool movie would be really awesome if they piced it up with his relationship with Vanessa Carlysle (Copycat) and had him gain the healing factor and the schizo personality in the same way he did in the original series. And he definitely needs to be scarred. That's kind of the whole point of his costume. Oh, and there needs to be some breaking of the fourth wall, without it being awkward because its on screen

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! not another Fox cop-out! *frak*

  8. deadpixel on May 13th, 09

Deadpool film with Ryan is really great news. However I'm abit hesitant due to the simple fact that FOX completely F'd Deadpool up by giving him all of those powers. How he was in the begining of the film was just perfect! I donno how FOX can undoo all the BS they did to the character. But…… its hollywood so I'll wait and see.

cool – dead pool is an awesome character – too bad 20th fox fukd his character up – they will make a decent movie but again as in wolverine origins they will try to make a connection with the origins movie, yet change it up to meet their needs to make a decent story – so like wolverine you will get a decent story but no continuity – (ie) sabertooth is now wolverines brother, yet they dont know each other in xmen movie #1?, but they still have xavier (stewart) in the end starting his mutant school? if you are going to make a stand alone movie, dont involve or mention the others – make it its own universe. but im preaching to the choir and in the end it doesnt really matter to anyone except the idiot buying the movie ticket.

OrangeRush2112: Not that I WANT to defend the POS that was XMO:W, but the adamantium bullet Stryker shot Wolvie with erased his memory. Therefore, when they finally meet again in X-Men, he doesn't recognize Sabretooth (not that he would anyway, seeing as how Sabretooth grew 7 Inches taller and his hair grew about 24)

As for Deadpool. They could fix the lameness. For example: After the decapitation and subsequent effort his body puts into healing, his body rejects the given and he loses them, but he doesn't lose the healing power because well, it's a healing power. When his body rejects it it just adapts, evolving beyond Wolverine's. How to lose the Baraka claws though? Hmmm….

if Fabian Nicieza is doing the screenplay, then MAYBE it wont be the steaming pile Wolverine was.

  12. caffeinelogic on May 15th, 09

Best thing they could do is take it away from Fox. I know that will never happen, but damn they have pissed all over these stories. Too bad. Give it back to Marvel, things went well with Ironman!

  13. Kaeku on May 16th, 09

If Deadpool's body rejects the adamantium then the claws will be no more, since they are made from the stuff.

Basically, I'm prepared for the worst but hoping for the best. Reynolds could really make a movie version of 'Pool great, if FOX doesn't throw too many wrenches into the works. Personally, while I like Nicieza a lot, I would really love to see *Joe Kelly* write the screenplay — his was the best run on 'Pool, IMNSHO.

I'm guessing that some of his powers will be lost, save for the healing and maybe the teleporting. Not sure how I feel boutthe latter — his teleporting was technology-driven in the comics, and it caused him problems now and then, making for a more interesting story. Well, I suppose he could still have problems with it, even as a power. Movieverse Spidey still had webbing issues, after all, even though they were a part of his bucket o' powers rather than an invention, like in the comics ….

I suppose it's too much to hope Siren, Weasel and Blind Al will be in the movie.

  15. Rachel_roth on May 17th, 09

I like the character alright, I'm just surprised that Marvel and Fox are getting away with this with seemingly no struggle whatsoever from DC. Honestly, Deadpool is basically a spin-off of DC's Deathstroke the Terminator, right? (Wade Wilson, Slade Wilson…etc!) And Deathstroke definitely came before Deadpool…

  16. Missy S on May 17th, 09

My husband & I are hoping that his head getting chopped off will kill off some of the extra powers he was given. And I SERIOUSLY hope they find a way to get his swords out of his arms. That was just stupid.

  17. RIIPo8 on May 18th, 09

Awesome now comes the sad note that they may screw this up…….

I can understand the "X-men" movies and how everything was wolverine but plz…plz…FOX dont F@#$ this up!!!!!!

  18. Kev-Kev on May 18th, 09

ace … but aslong as they dont fuck him up and give him the adamanteum swords out of his arms and summers laiser vishion and that the teloporting thingy…. that NOT DEADPOOL!!!! GRRRRRRR!!!@#!~'!#'!'1##'1#'!'1#@1#'1 FOX you fuckin!@:!:!@:!@:@!

  19. desdemona on May 19th, 09

Fox didn't just kill the X-Men franchise, the chopped it up into little bits, ran it over with an eighteen-wheeler, and then took a machine gun to the remains. I'm pretty sure we can all agree on hating Fox for completely screwing up the entire x-universe…BUT I would still love to see Deadpool in live action (even though breaking the fourth wall might be a little awkward on the silver screen). And we need to be able to hear the voices in his head.
