So? What Did Your Think of STAR TREK!?

Now that the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek is out I am sure there are a ton of you that have seen it or plan on seeing it this weekend. I actually went to see it for the second time last night, except this time I saw it in IMAX, and it was so much better in IMAX! Everything was obviously much bigger and more awesome, especially in those space battle sequences. I enjoyed the movie just as much the second time as I did the first. My opinion of the film from my original review which you can Read Here if you want, has not changed. The movie is still the best movie I have seen so far this year. For me the movie lived up to its full potential. This film was just such an incredible movie going experience, everyone here at GeekTyrant had a blast at the movie. Except for the fact we had four of the most annoying people on the planet sitting behind talking through the whole movie… JERKS! Other than that, yes, Star Trek gets an A+.
Now if you have seen it please fill us in on what you thought about the movie! We want to read your reviews. Let us know whether you loved it or hated it and why.
Ready. Set. Go!

Aside from the fact that I thought the soundtrack was absolute crap, I loved it.
The soundtrack was up way too loud in the cinema where I saw it, so some of the dialogue got lost. I guess I'll just have to go see it again!
I loved the movie. It established the Kirk-Spock dyanamic perfectly. And they got a great cast together- each character was familiar without being a parody of the original actors. I thought Nero was poorly written (but well-acted) and I thought some of the FX shots were awe-inspiring- especially the Enterprise dropping out of warp by Saturn. I wanted that shot to go on for an hour, it was that beautiful. I can't wait for the next movie.
I enjoyed it very much. They did this series justice in every way I could imagine. I had no problems with it at all.
Loved it! Great reboot of a series that always bored me to tears. I wasn't bored this time!
I thought it was a really great movie, I can only complain that a few scenes took the cinematography from Star Wars movies. Like the scene where Kirk is on the motorcycle looks like Episode IV and then there were just too many comparisons that made it into the otherwise great movie.
I adored the movie! It was clear that Abrams was heavily influenced by the storytelling in the original Star Wars films. It was respectful of all things Star Trek, while taking the often stale, static ships and characters and giving them dimension and excitement.
It is one of the most fun films I've seen in a long, long time! I will definitely be back over the weekend. I'm already anxious for the next chapter!
im from the philippines, saw it twice, first was on IMAX, freakin awesome, very visually stimulating, then saw in on THX….yeah… waiting for the next movie.
I was cautious about forming an opinion before I saw the movie. My first reaction was to NOT like it…because it was new and different from what I loved growing up. But now that I've actually seen it- I am thoroughly impressed with both the casting and the way they were able to update the look of the Enterprise, the sets, the uniforms and other details while still making it seem familiar. VERY WELL DONE!
Excellent movie. I grew up on the 70's Star Trek series and have always had a love for it. This movie was so right on for the true trekkies. The cast was excellent, story line fabulous. I'm going to have to go again, it's just that good!
visually stunning, excellent character development, and great story on friendship
all in all it lived up to the hype, which is a rare thing to pull off. some of the shakey cam action scenes might make people sick to their stomaches but it's not as bad as any of the Bourne movies. it had the right amount of camp, and it didn't step on the toes of the cannon of the star trek saga. one thing i did find out of place but completely able to be overlooked was the faithful character portrayals of the original main characters except for Kirk. but like i said, it's acceptable
The thing I liked most about the film was how balanced it was when it came to humor, action and angsting. I laughed, I cried (just a little bit in the beginning, I swear) and I found myself so entranced in the story that when the film ended I immediately wanted to see a sequel.
And no, the lens flares did not bother me one bit, I actually really liked how they made the film look.
I left the theatre not sure what to think about it. I was talking with my brother in law the whole 15 minute drive home, and when I had gotten home and put my keys down on my desk, I had a moment, and that moment was "THAT WAS AWESOME!!!" I had been so worked up about trying to pick things up from TOS and watching the character manurisms and the like that I completely ignored the movie for what it was. Upon reflection, it was a great movie, and I liked it a lot. My brother in law, who is not a Trekkie in the slighest, liked it as well. I'm happy with the movie and plan on going to see it again either tonight or tomorrow
Definitely had jarring Star Wars references. I like Star Wars, but come on already. There were a few tidbits they threw into the story for the hardcore fans though which was pretty cool. I enjoyed the movie. Definitely different than the Star Trek of the 60s, 80s and 90s but it was good.
Built up way too much, still pretty awesome. Wouldn't pay to go a second time but thoroughly enjoyed it.
So you were a hardcore Star Trek fan that enjoyed the new movie. It's good to hear that. I was wondering how it would be excepted by fans with your your point of view.
That's exactly how i felt!
Then I am sure you will like it more when you see it the second time because you won't be looking for is faults. You'll just be able to sit back relax and enjoy.
Really? I loved the soundtrack. It had that big classic adventure film tone. I especially like when the Romulan vessel first came into frame.
The effects blew me away!
This is a good movie, but you guys gotta be joking. Star Trek is not an action-adventure franchise.
Have never been a Trek fan, but this made me believe… Bring on the next one!!
It's easy for everyone to relate to and it finally seems even a wee bit realistic.
LOVED IT! Nostalgic and yet new. Well crafted and well acted – not a disappointment. A must see on the big screen!
Just got back from the 2nd viewing. I didn't even realize that I had been sitting there for two hours. I was completely engrossed in the movie, and liked it even more than I had realized
I can't say much here (I have to save it for one of the places I write for), but that doesn't matter much, because I was pretty speechless with awe when I left the theatre anyway! Best film of the year so far, and I have a hard time seeing anything topping it, at least in my book. And that's saying a lot, because I had a laundry list of trepidations about the film beforehand.
Wow.
Venkman, about the first comment, I guess I am being too hard on the soundtrack. I really wanted to hear the official Trek theme in there somewhere and was disappointed I never got it, aside from that, I thought the Beastie Boys was a really really really bad call and thats coming from a huge fan of the Beastie Boys… The scene in the snow with the monster chase, and the water tubes were a little too Hollywood for me, and I have a hard time calling it Trek without any form of moral or literary overtone. But hey, when I go see it the 2nd time around and im not looking to pick it apart, I know im still going to leave very satisfied.
Oh, and before I forget, I loved the fact that we got some aliens that were real people in makeup and suits, it reminded me that 100% CGI characters for the most part still can't beat a guy in a crap load of makeup and rubber.
Gotta agree. Great film. I won't give anything away, but I will say that hardcore Trekkies will be tripping over themselves figuring out how the altered continuity, which this movies presents, will affect the entire Star Trek mythos.
It really sounds pretty much everyone is loving the new Star Trek movie. It really is just one of those great films.
I just saw it, and I was thoroughly impressed. Though not of the Star Trek generation, my mother is a huge Trekkie and so I was raised on Star Trek like it was her milk.
I thought it was really nice to see the explorations into what the characters were like when they were younger – knowing the older manifestations so intimately meant that I walked in and immediately started judging, and then realized how nuanced the interpretations were. The soundtrack was not impressive, but certainly satisfying, and I was so happy when the original theme began playing over the credits. Well-made movie, and definitely worth my money (possibly even again!).
A- = LOVED LOVED LOVED the film
HATED HATED HATED the soundtrack
The 'reboot' was imperfect but a great movie. I watched Star Trek from the '60s thru Voyager, so I got many of the references but the new characterizations stand on their own. The new Kirk gets beat-up in every fistfight and doesn't get the girl – how cool is that?
I really enjoyed the movie. Great mix of humor, action, angst. I thought it was very interesting that they threw in a time traveler. Because of doing that doesn't that change a huge chunk of the story in the future? There's no more planet Vulcan. Spock and Ohura develop a relationship. Spock and Kirk become friends in a different way than they originally did.. I was worried that I would imagine Sylar too much in Spock but he did a wonderful job. I thought the movie was amazing!
I am foaming at the mouth. WHAT?!!! SHEER AWESOMENES!!
My inner geek now wonders how the lives of Picard, Riker, et al, have turned out for the "next generation", due to this reboot-with-a-twist. While I think their lives would still involve Starfleet, roughly going along the same path as before, what would be altered due to such a significant change(s)? And does this mean Kirk perhaps survived the events surrounding Viridian III, due to [spoiler omitted]?
I'm just a little confused on why people hate the soundtrack so much. As a musician, I respected the music and thought that it fit what was going on in the movie. Can someone please tell me what they thought was so bad about it?
It was the best movie I have ever seen….without question
