I'm just a little confused on why people hate the soundtrack so much. As a musician, I respected the music and thought that it fit what was going on in the movie. Can someone please tell me what they thought was so bad about it?

My inner geek now wonders how the lives of Picard, Riker, et al, have turned out for the "next generation", due to this reboot-with-a-twist. While I think their lives would still involve Starfleet, roughly going along the same path as before, what would be altered due to such a significant change(s)? And does this mean Kirk perhaps survived the events surrounding Viridian III, due to [spoiler omitted]?

I really enjoyed the movie. Great mix of humor, action, angst. I thought it was very interesting that they threw in a time traveler. Because of doing that doesn't that change a huge chunk of the story in the future? There's no more planet Vulcan. Spock and Ohura develop a relationship. Spock and Kirk become friends in a different way than they originally did.. I was worried that I would imagine Sylar too much in Spock but he did a wonderful job. I thought the movie was amazing!

The 'reboot' was imperfect but a great movie. I watched Star Trek from the '60s thru Voyager, so I got many of the references but the new characterizations stand on their own. The new Kirk gets beat-up in every fistfight and doesn't get the girl – how cool is that?

I just saw it, and I was thoroughly impressed. Though not of the Star Trek generation, my mother is a huge Trekkie and so I was raised on Star Trek like it was her milk. I thought it was really nice to see the explorations into what the characters were like when they were younger – knowing the older manifestations so intimately meant that I walked in and immediately started judging, and then realized how nuanced the interpretations were. The soundtrack was not impressive, but certainly satisfying, and I was so happy when the original theme began playing over the credits. Well-made movie, and definitely worth my money (possibly even again!).

Gotta agree. Great film. I won't give anything away, but I will say that hardcore Trekkies will be tripping over themselves figuring out how the altered continuity, which this movies presents, will affect the entire Star Trek mythos.

Venkman, about the first comment, I guess I am being too hard on the soundtrack. I really wanted to hear the official Trek theme in there somewhere and was disappointed I never got it, aside from that, I thought the Beastie Boys was a really really really bad call and thats coming from a huge fan of the Beastie Boys… The scene in the snow with the monster chase, and the water tubes were a little too Hollywood for me, and I have a hard time calling it Trek without any form of moral or literary overtone. But hey, when I go see it the 2nd time around and im not looking to pick it apart, I know im still going to leave very satisfied.
Oh, and before I forget, I loved the fact that we got some aliens that were real people in makeup and suits, it reminded me that 100% CGI characters for the most part still can't beat a guy in a crap load of makeup and rubber.

I can't say much here (I have to save it for one of the places I write for), but that doesn't matter much, because I was pretty speechless with awe when I left the theatre anyway! Best film of the year so far, and I have a hard time seeing anything topping it, at least in my book. And that's saying a lot, because I had a laundry list of trepidations about the film beforehand.

Just got back from the 2nd viewing. I didn't even realize that I had been sitting there for two hours. I was completely engrossed in the movie, and liked it even more than I had realized

LOVED IT! Nostalgic and yet new. Well crafted and well acted – not a disappointment. A must see on the big screen!
