47 RONIN Movie Update

There is a new movie out in Hollywould getting made that we reported on a while back. It is a remake of the 1941 Japanese film called ‘Genroku Chushingura’ also know as ‘47 Ronin’. The story of the 47 Ronin is based on a true stoy which recounts the most famous case involving the samurai code of honor, bushiko or ‘Way of the Warrior’.
The new film being developed will star Keaun Reeves, and his half-Asian heritage will play a big role in the movie. The film is being written by Chris Morgan who also scripted ‘Wanted’. Morgan gives a little description of what we can expect from this movie:
“It’s this great, ‘Gladiator’-esque, ‘300′-like big action movie with samurai and ninja,”
I wonder if it will be filmed in the way of the green screen CGI. It will most likely have a mixture of both. This is a huge story to tackle and I’m not sure if they will be able to do it any justice. I just don’t want the filmmakers to loose focus on what this story is about. Personally I would like it better if Reeves wasn’t cast in it and they got a better screenwriter to write it I think Randall Wallace would be the perfect screenwriter for this kind of story.
The revenge of the forty-seven Ronin took place in Japan at the start of the eighteenth century. The story tells of a group of samurai who were left leaderless and became ronin after their daimyo (feudal lord) was forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) for assaulting a court official named Kira Yoshinaka, whose title was Kōzukeno suke. The ronin avenged their master’s honor after patiently waiting and planning for over a year to kill Kira. In turn, the ronin were themselves forced to commit seppuku, as they had known they would be, for committing the crime of murder. This true story was popularized in Japanese culture as emblematic of the loyalty, sacrifice, persistence, and honor that all good people should preserve in their daily lives.

This is an increible story and has the potential to be a fantastic movie! I am afraid they are going to loose the focus and meaning of the story in the spectacle of special effects and over the top action. This movie is best told grounded in reality. I’m just not sure they are are taking it down the right road. What do you think?

yay
double yay!
Triple Yay!
you lost me at "Keanu Reeves"
I think that you are absolutly right. I mean Tom Cruse in the Last Samurai was great but that's because he got to play an erogant asshole that had to find himself while trapped in a different world. However, Reeves hasn't done a movie where he could be himself since Bill and Ted. Awesome with the Matrix, but he may not be the "One" for this movie. That's what I think… It may be too serious a role for him.
"his half-Asian heritage will play a big role in the movie"
A half-white/half-chinese in a japanese setting?
I wonder how they are going to make that work.
movie ninja magic?
Reeves is never represented as an Asian-American actor.
His other half is what lands him the roles.
First you take away the opportunity for a Chinese-American actor to play Spike Spiegel,
now, you are going to take away the opportunity of a Japanese-American actor to play a Samurai?
C'mon Reeves give a Asian-American actors a chance to shine!
There will be plenty of alien, surfer dude, kung-fu jesus roles out there.
how about someone who can act!!!! they are going to disgrace this honorable story…..they will ruin this movie i hope this director has a fiery car crash!!!! how about getting a JAPANESE ACTOR for a JAPANESE MOVIE!!!!!! baka gaijin!!
when will the film be released? r there any dates confirmed yet? or expected dates?
FILLED WITH RAGE. STOP WHITEWASHING ASIAN MOVIES, HOLLYWOOD! I'm so sick and tired of this crap!
Its gotta be a joke. There was nothing in the whole paragraph that wasn't obviously tailored to piss off movie snobs or history buffs.
