Johnny Depp could end up Playing Frank Sinatra

Yesterday we reported that Martin Scorsese was set to direct the Frank Sinatra biopic for Universal Pictures. I wondered if Martin Scorsese would want to bring in Leonardo DiCaprio in to star as the famous musician. I mean, the guy has worked with him in ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘The Aviator’, The Departed’ and ‘Shutter Island’.
However this is not Universal’s first choice to play the role of Sinatra. Apprently they want Johnny Depp. Which is a pretty damn good choice. Johnny Depp said that after he made Sweeny Todd he would not want to do another musical. But he would not have to sing in this film. This movie will feature Sintatra’s own recordings.
Martin Scorsese and Johnny Depp have never worked together before and it would be awesome to see these two talents team up for a film. I hope it happens!
What do you think about Johnny Depp taking on the role of Sinatra? How are DiCaprio?

To be honest, neither of these guys seem fit to play Frank. It's hard to explain exactly why, but when I think of a whiskey-drinking, cigar-smoking, rough/scruffy baritone singer I don't think "wow, Johnny Depp!" I know neither would have to sing, but Sinatra's voice was so distinct even when speaking that hearing them try to impersonate him would bother me as a true, lifelong Frank Sinatra fan. Thoughts?
It depends if they are concentrating on young Frank or an older Frank. Because if they are wanting to do a young Frank biopic neither work good. Johnny for when Frank was older but I don't quite like the idea of him playing the classic singer. They need to do justice to Frank. Not just his bone structure
i dont knoww about that. i agree with matthew, i really dont think of johnny depp right away… hes a fantastic actor and everything, but out of all the millions of people out there, youd think they could find somebody more fit to the part, am i right?
i love johnny depp, but agree that he wouldn't fit the role of Frank, leonardo might…but i have a general dislike for him so it would ruin the movie for me. I'm sure if they looked hard enough they could find someone way more apropriate.
Hey Matt, you make a great point. Sinatra is going to be very hard to cast for. Personally I would love to see Scorsese direct Depp but maybe this isn't the film. From the sound of it his may actually happen though. If it does happen, I think Depp will once again surprise everyone on what he is capable of doing. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I think Johnny Depp is perfect for the role of Frank Sinatra…in fact, when I scrolled down and saw the pic of Sinatra, I thought it was Depp
