They also say if you have too many snacks before bed can cause nightmares, because last I knew those cartoons are usually on during the afternoon. So, these shows have to be really traumatizing to stick in a 7 year old's head for him to have to remember them to have nightmares about them. I watched the usual 80's cartoons but mainly remember the cartoons from the 90's. Some that should have been scary that I wasn't scared by would have to be Ahh! Real Monsters and Ren and Stimpy. Also I grew up repeatedly watching the movies Ghostbusters, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice (and the cartoon). and Robocop. So if a 9 year old could handle these movies what the hell is wrong with kids today?

How does Ben 10 frighten kids? You wanna frighten kids, you show 'em Batman-The Animated Series. Especially that one episode with Clayface. Now THAT'S traumatizing.

Power Rangers? Give nightmares? HA! I wanted to BE a Power Ranger...until my mother told me that it would be a role that would ruin my acting career. (Evidently she heard somewhere that when casting directors find out you were a PR, they immediately think you can't do drama and you're permanently screwed. How Amy Jo Johnson ever made it, I'll never know...)

Since we're talking about things that scared the bejeebies out of us when we were younger...I had a donut before bed one night and glanced into the living room to find my dad watching a movie where this little girl was on her back on a dining room table and there was this HUMONGOUS spider looming over her (think Aragog/acromantula) while her parents were arguing in court (I think). I couldn't stop flipping out...I was sobbing because I thought these people were wasting their time in court when they could be home saving their daughter. (Incidentally, it was my grandmother getting bit by a brown recluse that scared me away from them--not the movie.)

In Doctor Who regeneration from 3 ( Jon Pertwee) to 4 ( Tom Baker) Doctor 3 died due to the spiders which gave kids nightmares and fears. I watched it when I was older. What gave me nightmares was Robin on 1966 Batman being eaten by clam. I still will not touch clams or clam like sea food unless I had a hammer which really explains that Peter, Paul and Mary song.

I have never understood the need to blame the networks, console game companies, myspace, various internet sites for their content.

My mum absolutely would not allow a game console in our house. Granted we are talking about a Coleco vision or Atari.

My father never lived down the fact that he thought it was a good idea to take me to see Star Trek II when I was seven...the ear bugs gave me nightmares for months.

I grew up on Dr. Who and still love it.

Parents need to stop using electronic babysitters and perhaps do some parenting. I have watched too many parents buy their kids whatever they want, and allow then to watch whatever they want, because they feel they cannot control their child otherwise.

If you allow your child to do certain things than the blame and onus is upon you. Not the form of entertainment.

And yes, can we please hand out citations to parents who bring toddlers or young kids to movies they should not be seeing. First of all a wee one should not be up that late...they get overtired and fidgety; second of all that is just plain selfish and egocentric.

Hell, I went to a 10 PM showing of The Dark Knight last summer, and some idiots thought it was a good idea to bring their newborn and 2 year old to the lat show.

They didn't last past the bank scene because the 2 year old started bawling and some one got the manager who kicked them out.

Dude...this was my second time seeing the movie, but I could have told you all that it was inappropriate for children before I even seeing it.

Here here - and while we're at it, can we please start arresting parents for child abuse when they bring them to R rated movies - the rating system over here is idiotic.
