Marvel Has Cast THOR!

Wow! I have been eagerly waiting to see who would end up being cast as the God of thunder, and it looks like Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Director Kenneth Branagh have found their THOR! And it is someone that wasn’t even rumored for the role. The actor they have chosen to play the Mighty Thor is named Chris Hemsworth. Who is that you ask? You most recently saw him play a small role in J.J.. Abrams Star Trek movie as George Kirk.

This guy is perfect for the role! Chis Hemsworth is a 25 year old Australian actor who is pretty much unknown in the United States. According to Deadline Hollywood here is the story of how he landed the role.
The way Chris Hemsworth got the part of Thor is one of those great Hollywood backstories that happens only once in a blue moon. Ward had found Chris during one of the manager’s many scouting trips to Australia. Ward brought him to Los Angeles and really put him out there to casting directors and production executives. As for the major agencies, I hear CAA passed on the meeting, Endeavor took it but passed on repping him, and ICM was interested but dragged their feet. But Eileen Feldman got his appeal immediately.
Chris had read for the part of Thor but wasn’t given a test because a casting director had nixed him early on. I’m told Chris’ younger brother Liam (who’s also a ROAR client) then tested for the role of Thor, but Marvel’s Kevin Feige passed. Then, after a conversation with Ward (”You’ve got to reconsider Chris, he’s your guy”), Feige decided to let Chris read again. And once Marvel put him on tape, it was “Oh my god”. Branagh came to town last week and saw the Chris test and made the final casting decision today.
What a great story. I have to say I am extremely happy for the guy. He landed the role of a lifetime. On top of that I think he fits the part very well and will do a great job in the role as Thor. I trust the decision that Kevin Feige and Kenneth Branagh. These guys know what they are doing and they know what they want.
I am sure we will get a official announcement soon. We now have the movie face of Thor. I am happy they went with more of a unknown actor I think he is a great choice. What do you think about this huge casting decision!?

Switching off the girl in me for a moment (because her first response was oooh!), he does look right for the role. And I'm glad it's gone to a relative unknown to be honest, it just means the film won't just rely on having a big name draw in the crowds, it'll have to actually be good. I don't remember him in Star Trek but I did miss the first twenty minutes.
Good on him!
I think he is more suitable to the role of Blake then the role of thor…
They should've gone with Skarsgard. But I'm sure Hemsworth will be fine. He seemed like an actor with potential in Star Trek.
Damn. I was pulling for Forest Whitaker.
he's not built enough. Plus, just because he's got SHORT blond hair and a beard doesn't mean he's perfect. This movie is going to suck.
lol @ defender669 how you know if hes not buff all it is is a headshot. tard.
Honestly, I thought that Paul Rubens had this role in the bag. Oh well. I still have hope that Emilio Estevez will be Captain America!
As an Australian who used to watch this dude on TV every night when he was on Home and Away i can tell you right now, he's BUFF. His body is beautiful really, but he could use a bit move bulk.
To be honest, i think this is a massive mistake. I don't think he has the range to play this character but meh, i could be wrong.
I was watching Trek when I got this news and I have to say he LOOKS the part so well. I am so ready to see this movie and can't wait for it!
Thor is cool.
He did a lot with his few minutes on screen in Star Trek, and managed to turn in a very emotional performance. Whether that translates to Thor remains to be seen, but I have no reason to doubt the producers at this point. Waaay to early to consider this
"a massive mistake" by any means.
i think this is a perfect choice. he could easily bulk himself up more too. and from the little bit we saw of him in Star Trek, he did a really good job. im all for it- and i like when they choose actors that are pretty unknown
marvel made Nicholas Cage fukking ripped.. i they can accomplish that.. then size wont matter.. look at the progression of hugh jackmans body… marvel got a hold of him now he's huge
Holly…I don't like Thor his like a boyscout his like Superman and superman sux's… but i do like IKEA there's like a load of special's I love the clearance sales…So i will watch this movie i can't wait……
Please, he was damn buff in Home and Away when I last watched it last year. And hair grows, he's got until the start of next year to get it longer. Plus we don't know how long it is right now, as that pic may be old.
paul rubens is good, but i was thinking more along the lines of gary busey. yeah?
i'll admit, i cried.
I think he can do this. The small time he was on the screen for Star Trek, he showed pretty decent acting chops. I can see him bellowing "Verily" and swinging mighty Mjolnir. At least it's not being produced by FOX.
indeed
to tell you guys and fellow geeks the real deal he looks more suted to play cap?i think kevin mckidd is the true thunder god.
