1970’s British Sci-Fi TV Show UFO to Be Adapted into a Movie

Film Producer legend Robert Evans is joining up with ITV Global to develop a new feature film based on a 1970’s TV series called ‘UFO’. Robert Evan was a very powerful producer back in the 70’s when films relied on a great script to tell a story. Just as an example he produced ‘Chinatown’ and ‘Marathon man’. He has since taken a back seat and has not really done much worth mentioning.

I have never heard of this show ‘UFO’ before, but it was created by Gerry Anderson and it ran for three years. I love the premise of the story though! The movie was set in the 1980’s and revolves around the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization or Shado for short. This is a covert military organization is trying to take down an alien race that has been kidnapping and killing human for decades, then using the body parts. The Shado headquarters are hidden beneth a Hollywood movie studio, and the head of the studio is actually a Shado commander.

This time around the movie will be set in the near future of 2020. Variety reports:

The Robert Evans Co. has a first-look deal at Paramount, which will be first stop for the project. “We know the importance of the ‘UFO’ series brand to ITV Global, and we will work closely with them to build this into a franchise,” Evans said.

I gotta tell ya, I love this. I hope it all works out. In the mean time I am going to have to watch the TV show. Have you heard of this show? If so is this a movie you want to see get made?

Indeedly doodly. As kid growing up in the UK in the 70's, I was spoilt for choice when it came to cool shows – UFO was no exception. However, the coolest thing about it was the toys – if you didn't own a UFO Interceptor as a kid, then you just weren't in the same league as your kiddie peers (same went for owning the Eagles from Space 1999). Ed Straker was a very cool cat of a commander and he had the greatest car ever. Gerry Anderson was a bloody genius.

I *loved* this show back in the 1970s. It was hard to find on US TV but it was there. From my little kid perspective, it was nothing short of great.

Ed Straker was terrific. The women in their short skirts were lovely, and the effects were reasonable for the time. (I loved the fighter planes that shot rockets that looked like bottles of Budweiser…)

    Make That Movie!!

It did seem tailor made to sell characters and activity sets. Jets, subs, space ships, it had a toy for every atmospheric condition. My favorite sight were those slinky space suited women with the funky wigs. Good times!

Yeah – thank goodness they don't do that any more eh? ;-)

This was one of my favorites and I believe you can get the old shows on DVD. I got them somewhere and watched them a few years ago. Not the same dark tone as "the Invaders" but better than kiddy fare "Lost in Space". The show had some suspense and really cool toys. They never got to use everything, the land APC's were hardly ever shown. The moon base was a little camp but the cast was great and the stories were pretty good. British TV shows like the "The Prisoner" , "Dr Who" and other gems like this one were lost on my friends but succeeded in making me the multi – layered, slightly eccentric fun lovin guy I am today. Different is cool, Baby!

As excited as I am about the UFO film, I pray the "powers that be" do it justice.

I've been hoping for a new UFO TV series, a revamp of sorts like Battlestar Galactica (excellent)

I loved the original UFO show, and I still watch them even now.
