BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Movie Reboot being done without Joss Whedon

Are you ready for this? I’m not sure if you are especially the Joss Whedon fans in the house, because ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is getting the reboot and Joss Whedon is in no way involved with the project. The movie is being developed over at Vertigo Entertainment and the original director of the first film is developing the project, Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband Kaz Kazui.
There will be no connection between this new Buffy movie and the awesome TV series, which means all of the characters we have come to love throughout the years of the show will have no place in the story. They say they “are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.”
That all fine and dandy but that is pretty much what the world is used to right now. Anything else might end up looking like a bad imitation to the fans. They are hoping to make the new film darker and eventful, which they hope blows up into a nice big franchise for sequels and video games.
Personally I see what they want to do with it and it’s just not going to work. They would be better off developing an original vampire movie at this point. The original movie was made in 1992, and Joss Whedon is the guy that that wrote the original script that brought these characters to life and then helped develop the incredible TV show. Not to have Whedon involved with the project is the biggest mistake that could be made in moving forward with this film because I think the fans will turn on it.
Kuzui is currently meeting with other writers and trying to find the right idea. They say the reason they went with Vertigo is because of Roy Lee contacted them about reviving the project. They say:
“It was Roy’s interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us. It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him.”
So there ya go. Are you up for a new reboot of a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ without the involvement of Joss Whedon?

This is just wrong on every level.
NO.
NO.
NO.
Like I've said around the other websites I've seen this on, if they want to bring a Slayer to the big screen, why not use Fray?
I've ranted about this many times since i found out about it a couple of days ago and i stand by what I've said.
This feels like a giant "Fuck you" to Joss Whedon and the many fans of the Buffverse, which also encompasses Angel – 12 combined TV seasons along with comic books, merchandise and fanfiction and they want to 'revisit it with a twist'?
How about they visit my finger, giving them the bird. This is a sure tank, not a single Buffy/Whedon fan will support this (unless Whedon tells us too.) and i don't blame them
This project will easily eclipse my immense hatred for JJ's reboot of Trek. An that's no easy thing.
We have Twilight to thank for making vampires en vogue again. Next thing you know someone will want to remake Fright Night. Oh wait a minute…
@Jeff – I hope that was sarcasm.
@blackadam52 – Yeeeea no. As a big fan of Vampire fiction – movies and stories – I like to think that True Blood, Charlaine Harris and Alan Ball played some small part in the recreation of Vampires in mainstream TV.
No, please don't let ANYBODY but Joss do a movie about Fray. I would love nothing more than to see her story come to life, but it can only be done well in the hands that created it.
I say NAY to the new Buffy movie.
I've already ranted about this on other sites. Let me just say that THIS WILL FAIL. Buffy should be left to the brainiac visionary genius who gave it myth and brevity with professional talent and that is Joss Whedon himself. 'Nuff Said.
This studio is just shooting themselves in the face. Nobody in their target audience will even watch this because they are already loyal to Joss Whedon.
Studios are getting dumber and lazier these days. Seriously its just getting worse and worse out there people.
thank you, for letting the unaware become aware of such goddamn bullshit. what. the. fuck. this will fail terribly or become some horrible revamp (sorry for the pun) of twilight with about as much faith in the original series as Wolverine. no…just…NO.
also, don't mention Fray. please, any whisper of that beautiful story and they will whisk it off to the silver screen where they will rape it til it is completely unrecognizable. please, keep your voices low.
