Earlier this week we brought to your attention the fact that Ridley and Tony Scott were going to get a new Alien movie up and running. We were not sure if this news was a rumor or if it was true until now. Tony Scott has confirmed it with collider.

Scott confirmed that the Alien movie will be a prequel to Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi/horror film, and that commercial diretor Carl Rinsch will indeed direct the new movie. the Alien prequel will be developed over at FOX and when Scott was confronted about FOX making crappy films recently, that it is not an artist friendly studio, and that they are nickel and diming and not giving the fans what they want Tony responded with.

Yes! But Fox is our home. They finace our production company.

He hopes that they will start filming around the end of the year. So this Alien prequel is for sure happening. It seems like there are some mixed feelings about this movie movie forward. Some people are excited for it other are not. As for me I’m excited! I really think these guys are going to put something great together. I just don’t think Ridley Scott will half-ass it.

Now that it is official what do you think?

I'm excited if it's truly a prequel and not a "reboot". I hope it leads right up to the events of Alien.

If this a prequel then I'm all for it. But if its yet another reboot from Fox… count me out

For many years, Ridley Scott has mentioned in interviews (and dvd commentaries) that the "space jockey" – and the entire alien ship in the first film- was one of the most compelling images that he would like to explore more in depth in a future film.
It is great that this is finally getting off the ground, I was certain that AvP had killed any interest in Alien as a film franchise of any merit. While the Scott Bros. are a huge selling point for me, I am weary of where Fox is going to push this film. I'm a huge Alien fan (I love the original, have seen it many times, still terrifies me)- I look forward to more news.

I'm glad this this is NOT going to be a reboot. Alien is perhaps one of the best scifi horror films ever made and certainly didn't need a reboot. However it appears now that they are using the "reboot" term to just reboot interest in the property. I will agree that the back story posed in Alien is fascinating and ALWAYS intrigued me. In regards to Fox, Tony and Ridley Scott are well established and profitable filmmakers, I HOPE that Fox realizes this and doesn't push their weight around artistically.

The fact that Ridley and Tony Scott are involved gives me hope for this movie, considering how far in "left field" the series has become, and the fact that Ridley is a hard-ass director. I'm not sure how the Ripley character would be involved in a prequel, unless her memory is somehow wiped and she's prepped at the end of it for Alien.

Exactly. The more Fox just gets out of the way, the better… I think, creatively, they should get the other two parts of the original film formula… Dan O'Bannon(writer) and HR Giger. That's my "fantasy team" for making an amazing prequel.
I don't know anything about Carl Rinsch, but I do have faith in the Scotts.

This is going to be very interesting
