After what I have seen happen with X Men Origins: Wolverine I'm not holding my breath on this one. Thor is very hard to do without looking absolutely cheesy IRL. I mean people complain about The Hulk. But people don't understand that The hulk does not make sense in the physical world; make him in Live Action will always look "fake." Saying they are "going to focus on his character" to me is code for "going to sparingly use special effects because it will take away from the 'reality' of the movie and people will sign it off as a kids fantasy flick." That plus the obvious PG13 rating this movie will go for means we will not see Thor do what a real Viking God would do in the real world: wreak havoc. Look at Wolverine. Bad ass character hamstrung by both it's rating and the reality that the movie would no longer be approachable to a regular audience because it would look too fantastical if they truly tried to represent the full power of a super hero like Wolverine.

IMHO comic movie should stay in the realm of animation because that medium lends itself more readily able to bend reality to suit the story. However the American stigma of animation being consigned to the realm of "children" renders it hamstrung as well. But at least it would flow more easily than trying to change whole aspects of a character because your doing it in live action.

Plus Terminator SCC is an absolute disgrace and if this guy is involved with that project I'm definitely holding my nose when approaching Thor.

Very excited about this. The writer sounds extremely intelligent and on point, so I hope he writes a good script. Thor isn't the biggest name in comics, but I don't think Iron Man was either really until the movie came out, and that did very well. I remember when pictures of the Iron Man suit came out I showed people and they had no idea who he was, one person actually said "Don't tell me they're making another Robocop." Haha. So I think Thor is going to be able to take us by storm the same way Iron Man did (if it's as good as Iron Man).

Thor is one of my favorites, I can't wait.

The huge difference between the recent Punisher movie and Thor, is that Thor is a Marvel Comics produced movie, and they have more control over it. With Punisher, even the frakkin director had no control over the final product. The two movies that Marvel has had control over, iron Man and Incredible Hulk, have been fantastic. But then you get something like the Wolverine movie which is made by Fox, and you see how the quality just disappears.

Marvel is still very hit-and-miss with me. On a certain level, I enjoyed Punisher War Zone, but I know its not a good movie. I am thinking -unless Thor is a tentpole (which I doubt)- that Thor is going to fall more into the mold of War Zone. A fairly faithful translation of the character, but not enough wide appeal.
But there's still lots to get hammered out (zing!).
