Dan Aykroyd Gives a GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Update with Potential Shooting Dates, Director, and Actresses

Hey gang! We have a pretty nice little update on the ‘Ghostbusters 3′ movie front. This is a project I have been waiting to see for years! Hell, after I saw the second one when I was a kid I was itching for a third movie, and it looks like the corner stones are set and the foundation is solid. Lets hope the building of it will go according to plan. Dan Aykroyd fills us in on some new details including a director and who he would like to see play a female Ghostbuster.
The first thing he addresses in the interview is the fact that Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are all on board! He then goes on to discuss Bill Murray’s involvement and how all that went down in getting him into the third film.
“I don’t put not making the third movie on Billy. We can’t do that. I’ve been very busy. Harold’s been busy, Ivan’s been busy. And a third script really didn’t coalesce properly. And Billy, you can’t blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God’s sake. Although I’m the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I’ve never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he’s an artist. You can’t force somebody into it. I’m sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we’re at a point that there’s a story that he can accept and that’s going to work, and I think we’re going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter.”
All I know is Murray is going to do it. How he got there isn’t really important. He also reveals that the movie my be in production by winter which is awesome! The third film is currently being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky this is the same team that writes for The Office and also co-scripted the Harold Ramis film ‘Year One’.
Dan Aykroyd seems very excited about doing this movie and he hopes that director Ivan Reitman will direct it. Reitman was the man that directed the first two Ghostbuster movies. But it he can’t do it then Harold Ramis is his second choice to helm the film. I will be completely happy either way!
He goes on to say that the story will hopefully revolve around a five member team of new generation Ghostbusters with several female members. He mentioned two names he would like to see in this new generation of Ghostbusters… Alyssa Milano who voiced one of the characters in the video game coming out, and Eliza Sushku. He also says:
“I’d like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let’s revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let’s pass it on to a new generation.”
This is where I get a little sad. He wants to briefly revisit the old characters? Briefly? Ah, man. Thats not what I wanted to hear. I understand they want to pass the torch but how briefly is briefly? I’m sure I’ll get over it once I hear the movie starts shooting. In the mean time I am going to be a little sour. I know they are old! But still.
So, What’s on your mind? What are you thinking about this new Ghostbusters 3 movie? Rant away my friends.

After the new Star Trek I'm scared as Hell. Pass the torch movies never turn out well. It's better to revisit an idea and remake. I don't like the idea of "brief" either.
There's no way they can top what they made in the first movie. The second movie proved that.
A brief encounter is fine by me. I'm crossing my fingers that the new team will be able to carry the torch.
5-member team? Aww, man, does that mean they aren't using the concept of Extreme Ghostbusters? That was one of my all-time-fave TV shows!! *pout* I'm a hard-core Eduardo/Kylie shipper — I even run a fanlisting for them and another for the show itself ….
I don't know what Justin is talking about, Star Trek was a huge success and as a Trekker myself for years…I found it completely satisfying. I consider myself as an equally big Ghostbusters fan and think this movie has a good shot at recapturing the old flair the original two movies had. If you want to compare it to a movie fear…compare it to Indiana Jones 4….that makes sense…but Star Trek?
As for the fears of the "briefness" of the main crews appearance, I'm sure they'll play a big enough part in the movie to satisfy us all. I can't imagine they'd be nothing more then cameo appearances. Once filming is underway I'm sure we'll hear more on what's really set to be.
Oh god oh god oh god!!!! AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best news i have heard all day and my girl told me today that she was pregnant!!!! There is a reason to live !!!!!1
I was excited until I read that it would be a "new generation" movie. Forget about that! The old actors are all still alive and in perfect shape to be in another movie! If you got everyone from the first two on board, why the hell not just continue the story where they left off???
They must have meant Eliza Duchku (from 'Buffy' and 'Dollhouse'), not Suchku.
If anyone has watched any of bill murray's movies over the past 10 years or so you would know he wouldnt get on board to do something tacky… as unfortunate as it is to have to pass the torch i bet it'll be a million times better than the indiana jones shit storm, especially with the new technology. be optimistic people!!!!
I can’t get excited by a threequel if I didn’t enjoy the sequel. Ergo, I’m not excited about Ghostbusters 3.
FWIW, I took Justin’s comment to mean that the new Star Trek movie proved that the “revisit and remake” path it took is better than the “pass the torch” path Ghostbusters 3 seems to be taking.
I ahte to say it but this shouldbe funnier with an older cast and newer technology! I see box office gold with this! If your reading anyone associated with the movie..CAST ME!
They are going to have to go big when passing the touch. Will Ferrel – Egon Replacement Steve Catrell – Ray Replacement Dane Cook – Peter replacement Terry Crews/Dwayne Johnson – Winston replacement
I don't want them to be in there "brief" either, let the originals carry the story and pass the torch intrinsically at the end! After all the characters don't have to do super hero stunts just basically stand and hold ghostbusting machines, drive around and talk wittily. Any age can do that. Of course the script will be more involved than I just wrote, a good writer can make any age look great what with all the special effects….come on get creative writers I love the originals, they are real, the newbies will be plastic.
