Sam Raimi Hints Vampire Villain Morbius in SPIDER-MAN 4

It was rumored that the next villain in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man 4′ movie would be the vampire known as Morbius. Personally I would love to see Morbius as the villain in the film! It would be like a Spider-Man horror movie and I could see Sam Raimi really having a lot of fun with it. In an interview with FearNET Raimi hint’s to the fact that this rumor could possibly be true or he is just teasing the hell out of us, but he really had a lot to say about it in the interview.

When Raimi is asked about this rumor he looks at the camera and with a Mischievous tone in his voice says:

What? I don’t know anything about that.

I Guess They’re… umm, very appealing like the best of villains. They have some positive qualities, That is they can be very sexy and alluring, and umm they way in which they attack you is a very sensual it’s almost something you desire. You know the bat, we’re all scared of bats. Ew! so thats kind of cool. Some vampire stories go there some of them don’t obviously. But umm, that why I like the fact that there’s a cure against them in some of the lore like the garlic, or the cross. Thats really interesting, that there’s a way to stop them. There’s a whole story that can be made with all those elements so its got some real rules and laws. And then you could be turned into one of them, is interesting also. There’s a lot of enticing qualities for a story teller and audience.

From the sound of it Raimi wants this vampire as the villain. He wants to work with this story and after hearing him talk about it like it I am pretty sure this is the direction they are going to go with. But, then again he could just be messing around with us. I’d like to think he is not, and that Morbius will be the next Spider-Man villain.  To watch the actual video interview head on over to CHUD.

Using Morbius in the Spider-Man movie also will help set up the Lizard character because they didn’t really get along very well either. Here is a little background of the character.

Morbius was actually a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, who had attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease with an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy. However, he instead became afflicted with a far worse condition that mimicked the powers and blood-thirst of legendary vampirism. Morbius now had to digest blood in order to survive and had a strong aversion to light. He gained the ability to fly, as well as superhuman strength, speed, and healing abilities. His appearance became hideous-his canine teeth extended into fangs, his nose flattened to appear more like a bat’s, and his skin became chalk-white. He also gained the ability to turn others into similar living vampires by biting them.

So what do you guys think about a vampire villain in Spider-Man 4?

    No…after the last movie, no.

  2. Duffmovies on May 23rd, 09

The last Spiderman was a huge letdown, though word on Drag me to Hell seems to be really good, maybe Raimi has got his mojo back. Fingers crossed

  3. mappleby05 on May 23rd, 09

Is it just me, or is the whole vampire movie thing being used way too much…

  4. desdemona on May 23rd, 09

the "whole vampire movie thing" only seems overused because of the current twilight frenzy and now theyre apparently cool for tweens as well. As much as I would love to see Morbius in a spiderman movie, I'd really rather not see another spiderman movie in general after the last one.

  5. OrangeRush2112 on May 23rd, 09

i agree with desdemona – get away from the vampire crap! please dont try and target the emo bitch boys and girls. please go with rhino or mysterio or even vulture.

  6. BluInkAlchemist on May 23rd, 09

To respond to both desdemona and OrangeRush, what we need is vampires done properly. Vampires should be smooth, erudite and charming monsters who are neither cackling villains nor wangsty emo tweens with pale skin, but complex and cunning characters. Gary Oldman's portrayal of Dracula comes to mind. Vampires are ancient, evil, and subtle. They don't explode into ash when they get staked with silver, they don't get involved in fistfights with lycanthropes if they can help it, and they sure as hell don't sparkle. Vampires should never sparkle. Ever.

I completely agree…whatever happened to the real vampires? They don't sparkle in the sunlight, for god's sake! Under that same logic, Emma Frost should be a vampire. Which is kind of frightening. Just…no.
ANYWAY..slightly sidetracked there. my point is, bring the real vamps back!

ill gladly accept the real concept of vampires back anyday – i enjoyed 30 days of night.

Oh for the love of God…Sam Raimi gave us one good Spider-man and one great Spider-man movie, and you guys think the man doesnt deserve a chance at one more? Give me a break. If everyone wouldnt have been on a Venom high, it wouldnt have happened. Its not Sams fault that Sony and Avi Arad forced him into putting Venom in. Hopefully they let him have complete control back on this movie.

I think everybody feels the same way about the third film. Even Sam Raimi said he wishes he could go back and change it. That says ALOT! But yeah, the buzz about DMTH is great. I've heard nothing but good things so far.

  11. abefroman on May 27th, 09

I'd like to answer your question with another question… yes. But that could be said about robot movies, love movies, time travel, aliens, penguins, talking animals, Seth Rogen, ghosts, the list goes on and on. Just for the record I think Rogen is damn funny. I didn't mean that as a slam.

  12. abefroman on May 27th, 09

I agree, but i just have one word to add… "Blackula". My work here is done.

  13. abefroman on May 27th, 09

That's the biggest problem we see in films today, the studio not letting the director… effing direct.

  14. Mr. Black on May 27th, 09

I second that entire notion Abe.

  15. Mr. Black on May 27th, 09

that's because studios are run by lawyers and accountants now. People with business degrees but not an artistic bone in their body.

I don't know that I'm a fan of this idea. I did NOT Like Spiderman 3 as it just threw too many story lines together, and this movie really needs to recharge the franchise. I would go in another direction. Vampires are just way too in our face these days. I would definitely like to see the Lizard developed more, and the Black Cat introduced somehow as a secondary character. I think they could create a very cool storyline with Lizard, Black Cat, and Kraven the Hunter … have him hunting these 'animal-based' characters.
