Taylor Kitsch Talks about what he wants to see in a GAMBIT Spin-off Film
When I saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine I was most excited to see what they did with Gambit’s character played by Taylor Kitsch. It was alright but I was expecting a little more. It turned out Wade Wilson was the best part of the movie. Gambit is still one of my favorite X-Men characters and I wouldn’t mind seeing a spin-off film for the character, if it done right. It really pisses me off that FOX owns the rights to these characters! It just means every X-Men movie we get is just going to be mediocre at best.
So if we did see a Gambit movie what is it that we could possibly see? Taylor Kitsch gives us his thoughts on where he would like to see the character Gambit go in his own movie. One of the things he would like to see come to life is Gambit’s love interest with Rogue played by Anna Paquin.
“There are two things with that – she’s such a great actress and I’d love to work with her, and that would be cool to see Gambit and Rogue,”
I think that this is a must have relationship in a Gambit movie. I wonder if Anna Paquin would even be interested in coming back to reprise her role. He goes on to say:
“I’d also like to see the charming Gambit on his own and see how he is with other women – see how he is with the women in the casino there, with the charm and the suave and the effortlessness it takes with him. That’s something I’d like to explore as well.”
So pretty much Taylor Kitsch wants to see Gambit get as much girly action as possible, but at the same time have Rogue as his main love interest. Well, that’s all fine and dandy but I would also like to also see Gambit kick some major ass as well, and have it built around a good story.
I guess we will have to wait and see just how much money ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ brings in before FOX decides to move on a Wolverine Sequel, Magneto, Deadpool, or Gambit movies. I would love to see all of them, if Fox wasn’t involved, but that’s not going to happen.
What do you want to see in a Gambit Spin-off film?

I’ve also read somewhere that he wants to go into Gambit’s history with the guilds. Which I would LOVE to see.
GAMBIT. THAT’S WHAT I’D LIKE TO SEE.
Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here drooling.
An attempt at a cajun accent would be a good start…
Definitely the Rogue relationship. And some of his origin story would be fun. My only complaint was that his accent wasn’t strong enough…
And I want a Deadpool spin-off. THAT would rock.
If Taylor Kitsch is to continue as Gambit he needs to put in a great deal of work on both the accent and the personality. He has the – look – of Gambit but right now that’s all he has. As for the Rogue relationship, I think for his first stand alone Gambit movie it needs to be removed further from the XMen. Deeper into his background definitely.
I think Kitsch actually did have the personality just fine; my only problem with him was the accent. Otherwise, he *felt* like Gambit to me. And I was relieved that they made him a good guy rather than a villain (unlike the new animated series). And Kitsch is spot on with what I’d like to see in a spin-off — to me, his ladies’-man charm was all that was really missing from Origins: Wolverine, simply because they didn’t really give him a *chance* to show it. But the Rogue/Gambit ship is my fave thing in the entire marvel Universe, so that’s definitely a must! The lack of that in the first three films was it’s biggest disappointment for me. I wonder how they would get past the age discrepancy, though — Origins: Wolverine has to take place at least five years before the end of last stand, where Rogue was what, 17? And the youngest Remy could be here is 21, which would make him 26 when she’s 17. Paquin is less than a year younger than Kitsch. Will aging slower be a part of Gambit’s power, or would they just ignore how much time should have passed? Anyway, just because he wasnt toplay up the ladie’s-man side of the character doesn’t mean he’s asking that tthere be little action — Im sure there would be plenty of that, that he’s asking that they add to what’s there, not trade stuff out!
as screwed up as Deadpool was in the movie, I have to admit it was awesome. It would be awesome if he had his own spin-off (with mouth intact please)…but what I would love even more is MORE GAMBIT! He is so gorgeous that he actually managed to distract me from Hugh Jackman! When Gambit came in and was like, “Miss me?” I’m pretty sure every female in the theatre (myself included) shouted at the screen, “YES!”
Definitely would love to see the a Gambit and Rogue romance develop, and some background from his thieves guild days would be cool as well.
Thing is, this film was supposed to be set about 20 years before the original trilogy, so how could the Rogue romance work? Throw in Belladonna instead.
@Desdemona ~ I didn’t *shout* yes, but I certainly thought it. *G*
@Vee ~ Couldn’t have been 20 years at the end of the film. Cyke was likely 25 or younger in the first film, and he was 17 or 18 here. So more likely five to eight years difference, ten at the most.
>.<
Whenever it comes to the X-Men movies I find myself ranting incessantly about quite a few things and one of the main ones is Rogue.
I don’t care what anyone says, Rogue was not in any way shape or form in any of those movies. Sure, there was a girl named Marie who had similar powers and had the same white streak in her hair but by what stretch of anyone’s imagination is that whining, emo teenage girl the badass bitch that is Rogue? Her origins in the movie were all wrong (I can handle a certain amount of creative licence but come on.) and there was a blinding oversight as to who her love interest was. I was mad enough Gambit wasn’t in the movies to start with but to throw the Iceman at her and call it a day? Get. Fucked.
As for Origins: Wolverine. Yes Deadpool was in it but he was too Deadpan to be the Merc with the Mouth. Sure he was sarcastic but he lacked any kind of serious enthusiasm for her cheekiness, I love that Deadpool takes pleasure in being a cheeky prat and I just don’t think that Ryan Reynolds achieved that.
From the moment that Gambit opened his mouth I was bitterly disappointed. Sitting in the cinema I couldn’t help but let out a very loud “What the fuck?” and while I ignored the few dirty looks I got from parents who had brought their 10 year olds to see the movie, I just sat there shaking my head wondering when the sexiest Cajun on the planet had become a Californian. I think that he certainly looked the part but one thing that Fox are great at when it comes to the ‘X-Men’ universe is ignoring accents. (Storm is a PRIME example)
All in all I was as disappointed with Origins as I was with the X-Men movies (Why couldn’t they just use one of Emma Frosts real sisters instead of making one up? She has 2 of them after all, and one of them IS dead) and if they do chose to make a Gambit movie I hope they ignore everything that they’ve done with the X-Men movies, re-cast Rogue and make her into the bitchin character she’s meant to be.
/rant.
Actually, I don’t wanna see any movie of any character you said above. Don’t matter if FOX is envolved or not. Hollywood just don’t get comics. They can’t understand anything than $$…
I love X-Men. I growed reading its comics and it really makes me mad all those comics becoming movies. I wish those characters could stay the way they were forever. With no films industries owning their rights.
Nice site by the way.
@Shelle, re Emma Frost, actually, they didn’t make Silver Fox (Kayla) up — she’s a part of Wolvie’s mythology (although she didnt have that power — she’d originally just been given Wolvie’s healing factor). So it’s more a matter of asking ask why did they make Frost into her sister, when Frost had nothing to do with Wolvie’s mythos?
@WolfenM I didn’t say they made Silver Fox up – i said they made up Emma Frost’s sister. Fox have a history of taking Marvel characters and shaping them to fit what they need and thus changing who they originally are. If you know who Silver Fox is then you know that she’s nothing like the character ‘Kayla Silverfox’ Sure some of the origin is correct (The cabin in the woods) but the woman herself is not in essence ‘Silver Fox’ as she is.
@Shelle ~ I guess it’s a matter of semantics, then. Yeah, Kayla wasn’t much like herself, but Emma sure as hell wasn’t like herself either — no telepathy, not a cold-hearted bitch … I felt like they put her in more to give Cyke/Emma fans a little something that they would never have gotten otherwise. They could have chosen anyone to be the reason Kayla betrayed Logan, they just happened to choose Emma.
I think we can all agree, those of us who are true believers – that Fox mishandled the entire story of all of them.
With that said, they didn’t approach this as comic book fans. They approached this with one question in their minds.
“How much money can we milk out of this?”
In order to attract the widest audience, they had to pick and choose which facts to pull from actual story lines and which to make up off the top of their heads for the sake of an easy transition from comic to movie.
The irony of this entire situation and the drive for money that Fox has is this…
Marvel has managed to stay true to the roots (for the most part, obviously some things are far more difficult to transition over than others) and still make movies that are not only incredibly entertaining, but loyal to the writers that came before the movie.
So there you have it: proof through Marvel’s movies that you don’t have to re-write back stories and muck up characters in order to be successful and make money.
So…what is Fox’s excuse for tarnishing comic book canon?
In the end though, despite how bad or good Fox’s versions of comic books made-into-movies are, we will all go see it…because when it comes right down to it, we love to rant about it as much as we hate to watch it.
I’m just happy that they are finally (after all these years/discussions/debates with other friends) taking my favorite past time and turning it into live action movies.
freaking comic nerds. find a bitch and get fuck her brains out!!! There is a thing called REALITY….you should check it out sometime.
Anonymous…if you hate comic book nerds, then get the hell out of a website called “GeekTyrant”. The whole point is for us to talk about things like this. The only one who needs to get a life is you.
On the Emma Frost bit: she was completely unneccessary and obviopusly not realted to Silver Fox. They could have just put in a random mutant or something.
And the entire X-Men timeline in the movies has prety much been completely screwed, and I totally agree that Belladonna would be more appropriate. I know I said there should be a Rogue romance before, but looking back I’m pretty sure all that would do is further mess with the already messed continuity.
However, my point about Gambit being absolutely and completely gorgeous does not change…even if he does need to work on the accent.
P.S….there are a lot of people ranting about how his accent was terrible, but did anyone notice that Hugh Jackman quite obviously lapsed into his native Aussie a few times? Not that I’m complaining, I just think that you need to look at Taylor Kitsch’s performance a little more objectively.
Inspired by his comment of wanting to see Rogue/Gambit and work with Paquin … http://wolfenmoondaughter.deviantart.com/art/X-Me...
no signature jacket, accent was horrible ,his bow had a little pink ball at the end of it …lol he flys into the air breaks a rock with his stick looks to wolverine and says " missed me" CCCCOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!….
@mr nice guy ~ Bow? Do you mean his staff? It wasn't a pink ball, it was a white "diamond" that lit up pink with his power, same as the playing cards. And in case you didn't notice, *no one*, in *any* of the films, had their signature costume, save maybe for Magneto's being somewhat close. Besides, Gambit's "signature look" in the comics is a trenchcoat , not a jacket. And he had a trenchcoat in the movie, it just happened to be black instead of brown. What he was missing was the hot pink body armour (and if you hated the pink ball, you should *really* hate the body-armour), his black spandex with the pink stripes, and his metal boots. But for me, the purple silk shirt and the black vest worked quite nicely, epecially with the black trenchcoat.
