On the Emma Frost bit: she was completely unneccessary and obviopusly not realted to Silver Fox. They could have just put in a random mutant or something.

And the entire X-Men timeline in the movies has prety much been completely screwed, and I totally agree that Belladonna would be more appropriate. I know I said there should be a Rogue romance before, but looking back I’m pretty sure all that would do is further mess with the already messed continuity.

However, my point about Gambit being absolutely and completely gorgeous does not change…even if he does need to work on the accent.

P.S….there are a lot of people ranting about how his accent was terrible, but did anyone notice that Hugh Jackman quite obviously lapsed into his native Aussie a few times? Not that I’m complaining, I just think that you need to look at Taylor Kitsch’s performance a little more objectively.

With that said, they didn’t approach this as comic book fans. They approached this with one question in their minds.

“How much money can we milk out of this?”

In order to attract the widest audience, they had to pick and choose which facts to pull from actual story lines and which to make up off the top of their heads for the sake of an easy transition from comic to movie.

The irony of this entire situation and the drive for money that Fox has is this…

Marvel has managed to stay true to the roots (for the most part, obviously some things are far more difficult to transition over than others) and still make movies that are not only incredibly entertaining, but loyal to the writers that came before the movie.

So there you have it: proof through Marvel’s movies that you don’t have to re-write back stories and muck up characters in order to be successful and make money.

So…what is Fox’s excuse for tarnishing comic book canon?

In the end though, despite how bad or good Fox’s versions of comic books made-into-movies are, we will all go see it…because when it comes right down to it, we love to rant about it as much as we hate to watch it.

I’m just happy that they are finally (after all these years/discussions/debates with other friends) taking my favorite past time and turning it into live action movies.

Whenever it comes to the X-Men movies I find myself ranting incessantly about quite a few things and one of the main ones is Rogue.

I don’t care what anyone says, Rogue was not in any way shape or form in any of those movies. Sure, there was a girl named Marie who had similar powers and had the same white streak in her hair but by what stretch of anyone’s imagination is that whining, emo teenage girl the badass bitch that is Rogue? Her origins in the movie were all wrong (I can handle a certain amount of creative licence but come on.) and there was a blinding oversight as to who her love interest was. I was mad enough Gambit wasn’t in the movies to start with but to throw the Iceman at her and call it a day? Get. Fucked.

As for Origins: Wolverine. Yes Deadpool was in it but he was too Deadpan to be the Merc with the Mouth. Sure he was sarcastic but he lacked any kind of serious enthusiasm for her cheekiness, I love that Deadpool takes pleasure in being a cheeky prat and I just don’t think that Ryan Reynolds achieved that.

From the moment that Gambit opened his mouth I was bitterly disappointed. Sitting in the cinema I couldn’t help but let out a very loud “What the fuck?” and while I ignored the few dirty looks I got from parents who had brought their 10 year olds to see the movie, I just sat there shaking my head wondering when the sexiest Cajun on the planet had become a Californian. I think that he certainly looked the part but one thing that Fox are great at when it comes to the ‘X-Men’ universe is ignoring accents. (Storm is a PRIME example)

All in all I was as disappointed with Origins as I was with the X-Men movies (Why couldn’t they just use one of Emma Frosts real sisters instead of making one up? She has 2 of them after all, and one of them IS dead) and if they do chose to make a Gambit movie I hope they ignore everything that they’ve done with the X-Men movies, re-cast Rogue and make her into the bitchin character she’s meant to be.

@Vee ~ Couldn’t have been 20 years at the end of the film. Cyke was likely 25 or younger in the first film, and he was 17 or 18 here. So more likely five to eight years difference, ten at the most.
