there wasnt any clear reason for the ravaged wasteland - of course hollywood will fill your head that its because you are having too many bbqs. but the road was one of those books that kept me riveted with every page i turned. you could feel the compelling outcome but you couldnt put the book down. when i finished it i had the same gut feeling as i did when i saw saving private ryan - it affected me for weeks. not too many books today can do that. i wish the trailer and of course the movie didnt give any reason for the collapse of humanity. i am sure it would have left more of powerful impact as the book did with its ambiguity. i just hope they keep the fire burning theme alive in it. any way - cant wait.

I don't think many will agree with that statement, mr. crf123, but we are all entitled to our opinions.

Agree with Nathan...feels more fallout 3, than the road. I love Viggo and his performance seems moving, but while I respect Charlize' acting talent it feels that trying to expanding the female character/role further than originally planned just builds a hollow, passive 'what are we going to do' weak female character (that needs protecting...rather than holding onto last threads of humanity)? Phew...breathe. And, yes the editing style and marketing treatment of trailer did not help anyone here.

yay a movie fallout 3....now when are we going to see a movie version of the road? the book was about the quiet and lonely final throes of humanity, not about the epic post-apocalyptic journey. it's about hope in the face of inescapable failure.

also...remind me, because i could be wrong, but where did the wife come into it? if i remember correctly she has seriously only a couple pages in the book, and any reference to her is only in passing. Why do they change things that work so well?

book is amazing, but the trailer is god-awful.
book is by no means "epic" in the explosive filled way that this trailer sets it out to be.
hope the movie does this book justice.

Wow. Way to capture the lonely, quiet, desperate-but-surviving-on-hope tone of the book. Movie looks great, but the trailer is epic fail.

This movie doesn't even have to be good in order for it to be a shoo in for the Oscar race. McCarthey, Mortensen, Theron, Duvall, Pearce. All those names will make every critic swoon.
