SHORT CIRCUIT is the Next Film to Join the Remake List

Will it ever end!? I hate this! Every damn day I get the news that an older movie is getting remade! I’m fed up with it! It needs to stop! How many awesome original scripts are out there, that the studios are passing up because they don’t have the balls to try something new. The 1986 film ‘Short Circuit’ joins a long list of films that Hollywood feels they need to reboot. Dimension Films is behind the production and they have brought on board ‘Robot Chicken’ writer Dan Milano to pound the script out. He hopes to bring a subversive edge to the story.

I am a big fan of ‘Robot Chicken’, but I am not big on the idea of re-making another movie. Here is what producer David Foster, who produced the original movie had to say:

“We’re bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals.”

He also tells us that the visual look of the original robot will not change, and that the Pixar movie ‘Wall-E ‘ serves as an extended trailer of their new film. Oh, brother. So there you have it folks. What do you think about Johnny 5 being brought back to life?

Hey Hollywood! take a chance with something new. Get rid of those bean counters running the studios!

This is just getting ridiculous. It seriously needs to stop. People don't go see remakes anymore please.

    Johnny 5 is…resurrected?

how about they start remaking movies that didn't work the first time but have awesome potential to be great for the fans. I'm lookin at you X3 and you too Superman Returns. they need to quit picking apart my childhood favorites and leave them alone. If they were to do a sequel, that would be less offensive, but they need to start making original movies.

At least they waited until this movie was over twenty years old unlike Total Recall to announce the remake.

I jokingly told my wife the other day they would remake this. Jokingly because it's such a bad idea. It kills me! All these remakes, reboots, prequels, ect. I even here they're going to redo Robocop. It's ridiculous. I will not pay to go see these. They apparently don't want originality.

I agree with Joe. I told my wife that very same thing the other day. Remake Alien vs. Predator. lol. Remake something like Alien Nation. Logan's Run was a good idea that looks terrible now. Something that doesn't mess with things people loved. The Ed Norton Incredible Hulk was a successful implementation of this idea.

Or *gasp* come up with an original idea!

This is simply craptacular! Could it be that the global recession has crushed what little courage was left in Hollywood? What's even sadder is that the public will gobble down every retrocamp rehash they produce.
