Marvel Movie Updates on: THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and THE AVENGERS

Here is a bit more Marvel Movie news to wet your whistle. Marvel President Kevin Feige also had some stuff to say about the new upcoming Marvel movies that we are all so damned excited about! You know the ones, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers.
Thor is the movie I am most looking forward to right now. ‘Iron Man 2′ is going to be incredible. But there has been a lot of news about Thor recently. With all of the casting announcements, it’s fresh on the excitement level. First of all, Feige says that Donald Blake will not be involved with this Thor movie. And that the story will be set here on Earth or Midgard, instead of taking place in the world of Asgard. Which is a bit of news that I am struggling with because I really wanted to see Asgard come to life on the big screen. He says it will be “very much a Marvel superhero movie.” I guess they just want to set it in the Marvel film world they have created, to make the transition into The Avengers movie smoother. As for the casting of Chris Hemsworth as Thor he says, there was no question and the people involved with the film couldn’t take [their] eyes off of him. The Marvel movie universe will expand more around Thor and that their may be an extensive crossover between Asgard and Midgard.
The next movie that is currently in pre-development is ‘The First Avenger: Captain America’. The movie won’t go into production until the middle of next year. But, the plan is to start casting the movie this summer. Feige says that the Cap has to be an American. But he then kind of gives an explanation of why that will be a hard thing to do.
“I do think that’s something that we’ll take into account, international appeal. There are only a handful of stars that mean anything here much less overseas. But I do think that will be a factor in it.”
So are they really going to limit themselves on who they choose, to just international superstars? Look at the casting for Thor. They are all actors that are just starting out. Why can’t they do that with the Cap? He also says, that the rumor about Will Smith being up for the role of Captain America wasn’t really a rumor at all. He says that Smith is probably one of those international stars. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out. I’m excited regardless because it will take place in WWII and Joe Johnston is set to direct.
Then there is the long awaited Avengers film. They are pretty much just getting started on the story with this bad boy. They are bringing in Zak Penn who wrote ‘The Incredible Hulk’ to work on the outline. Feige says:
“It’ll have a much more massive global feel to it. The Avengers is about saving the world because there’s no other reason for characters that powerful to band together. So I think the scope and the scale will feel like a much bigger thing.”
And yes this movie will get a much bigger budget than the other films so the story will be able to be told on the most epic scale ever! I hope anyway. Then there is the question of who will be the villain, we’ve heard The Hulk might come back as a villain in which Feige says:
“I’d like to see The Hulk again. It will have been a number of years, four years since he was in a movie by that point, by 2012. So I’d like to see him in it. I’m not being coy.”
He then expands on what the villain needs to be like for the movie, that it’ll be big. “It’ll be something that no single hero can handle”. We will also see another character popping up in other movies, such as Sam Jackson and Scarlett Johansson, who are already signed on.
So, it sounds like everything is on track with Marvel. As long as they tell us a good story with some great action and fun special effects, then we’ve got nothing to worry about. I trust marvel with their classic characters, I just don’t see how or why they would screw it up. So now that you are up to speed on all things Marvel, what is going on in that great big brain of yours?

I am very excited about Marvel's plans in the movie business. It's great to see a film studio that is truly committed to quality and in the case of comic book movies, truly honoring the source materials. With other studios it is always hit or miss. They are looking for quick profits. Marvel shows that you can be profitable while still creating great works. DC needs to get their act together and start up a movie studio of their own.
They should look into casting Shon Lange as Captain America. Look him up on IMDB, he's new but has the look and if he can act he'd be perfect!!
I don't care that he's Canadian, I'm still rooting for Nathan Fillion as Cap. Or maybe Ryan McPartlin. But all of this has really got me excited for the upcoming Marvel movies.
That said, considering the modern Hulk movies have sucked, I'd really rather he didn't make an appearance in The Avengers.
They do, it's called Warner Brothers.
Matt Damon would be the best possible choice for Cap.
I know it sounds ridiculous but think about it. Slightly boyish features, he plays the fish out of water thing well (Bourne Series), has that kind of vintage leading man quality, blonde hair, blue eyes, buff.
he's got the international star thing down. and he's an american, and he looks like the Cap from the Ultimates.
first off, Will Smith as Cap, you have got to be kidding me.
maybe the Avengers could go in to deal with the Hulk, end up teaming up against the real villain ( maybe the Leader)
and wheres Panther in all this?
I like that marvel has laid everything out so the fans stay in the know… and the fact that they've signed all of these people into package deals to appear elsewhere makes so much sense… As Cap goes…If I had to pick someone right now it would be Ryan McPartlin from Chuck… He's already got a good look, but with the time before shooting he could definitely bulk up.
I do this everywhere people talk about casting Cap, so apologies if you've seen this before:
Mark Valley, Mark Valley, Mark Valley
They should change the title of the Cap movie…if I remember right, he wasn't the "first avenger". But I guess if you look at it from the 'Ultimates' perspective, I guess he was. Oh well…
I agree, Will Smith as Cap is ridiculous.
As a Black Panther maybe.
I can live with Matt Damon as the Cap.
Zing! I think DC's characters just simply don't hold up, they have two monster properties in Superman and Batman… then you have Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash… and what? Jonah Hex? Plastic Man? Its just not as deep in the public consiousness as the Marvel Universe. Not saying anything against DCs comics- that is the actual written and printed comics which are still solid titles, but outside of the rabid, small following, those aren't big draws.
Plus WB has tons of other properties to develop outside of DC. Marvel is only looking out for itself, so you see more stuff coming out of there.
I'd also like to see maybe Jansen Ackles as Cap..
I like the idea of matt damon as cap but i think that they should get someone to play hawkeye maybe the blondie from lost (male) or if they are going with the ultimate approach will smith should play it
Matt Damon as Cap, that could work. First and foremost Damon is a great actor, plus he's proven himself as an action hero from the Bourne movies.
Hello true believers, in the interest of playing the devil's advocate here… It seems that the source 'UGO' has said that his/her undying trust is allowed with Marvel to create films in the use of it's Classic Characters…. (pausing)… then what about DareDevil…. hmmm? Classic character, decent budget, main stream stars (Ben Affleck, Michel Clarke Duncun, Colin Ferrel, and Jennifer Gardner), the director…eh… but all in all a missed layup… and those of you whom aren't into the basketball metaphors… you don't miss layups… I smell a stinker, twice out of the 4….
PS… the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck coincidence isn't a coincidence… ha!
The Daredevil movie wasn't produced by Marvel Studios at all, it came out years before Marvel started their own studio. Same thing goes with the Spider-Man and X-Men movies, Marvel didnt' directly make those movies, other studios did. I'm glad that Marvel finally developed their own studio, better profits for them, and more control over the finished product. Iron Man was phenomenal and the Ed Norton Hulk movie was much better than the Eric Bana version.
I've seen the Captain America promo reel for up and coming actor Shon Lange and he is PERFECT for the role. I hear he also has a film that's going to Sundance as well?

Hello hollywood if you did'nt know captian america is white with blond hair and blue eye's! Why the hell would you even think about casting Will Smith he dose'nt even look or fit the part that would be like having Brad Pitt play blade or luke cage.If will Smith is casted as Captian America I can see alot of Cap's fan's boy cotting that movie.
