Even More MARVEL Movie Updates from President Feige Himself

There have been a lot of Marvel movie news updates in the last couple of days and it lo0ks like it’s not over yet. At this point it will never be over. Just as long as Marvel keeps making movies, then there will be news to deliver. Firstshowing attended a little conference in which Marvel President Kevin Feige unleashed some more news.

First off  IRON MAN 2:

  • The creative team watched their favorite movie sequels to make sure they got Iron Man 2 right.
  • The story will be fairly simple so that they can focus on the characters and crack open the mythology.
  • They have carried over the same sense of humor and the tone from the first movie.
  • They have also added more characters… obviously like Black Widow and Whiplash.
  • It is also obvious that they would want to up the action.
  • SPOILER: Scarlett Johansson’s character starts off as an assistant to Tony and then later is revealed to be Black Widow. From the sound of it, she will betray Tony in the end.

Moving on to THOR:

  • Feige also confirmed that Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were officially cast in Thor.
  • Thor takes place on both modern Earth and Asgard, possibly other worlds?
  • Director Kenneth Branagh will not use any classic Shakespearean dialogue, which was often used in the comics. Which I find to be an interesting road to go down, but one that I can understand.
  • SPOILER: Feige explains that Loki is a villain that could be sustained over the course of many films and provide the hero with a challeng,e while also being a mirror of that hero himself. So obviously Loki will play a role in a Thor sequel. But what about the rest of the Marvel universe?

ANT-MAN Update:

  • Edgar Wright is currently finishing up another draft of Ant-Man for them to look at after he finishes Scott Pilgrim.

Finally the great CAPTAIN AMERICA:

  • Feige confirmed this this will be a period piece that takes place during WWII.
  • ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ is their inspiration. They want the same level of fun. As do I.
  • As for the director Joe Johnston, who is a great director, Captain America is compared to two of his previous films ‘The Rocketeer’, ‘October Sky’ and a little bit of the ship designs that Johnston did for ‘Star Wars’.
  • SPOILER: The Captain’s sidekick Bucky will be in the movie.

I always said that Johnston was the perfect director for this project and Feige says:

“It’s the movie his entire career has been leading towards.”

Then Kevin Feige said that Marvel will be announcing a new film within the next few months that will be released in 2012. I wonder what it could be…

My guess is Dr. Strange.

This Marvel stuff is pretty cool isn’t it! There is so much excitement for these films. We can only hope that they will live up to our expectations, which I am sure they will. These movie are being created by the fans themselves, so i don’t think we have anything to worry about.

What new Marvel film do you think they are going to announce?

I want a revamp of daredevil. a true gritty blood and pain flick. like what was done for bat-man. i think Daniel Craig would be an amazing dare devil. but this will never happen because fox owns the rights and they just love raping marvel lore

what i would rather hear about is how they are going to get their properties back from Fox, Sony, and whoever else is screwing up their characters. (the x-men and spiderman are the two biggest that come to mind) I love their plan to link their movies together into the Marvel Universe. but what if we could see the Hulk and Spiderman together? Or the Avengers with the Beast a member? Or Wolverine and Captain America throwing some adamantium around. well, maybe one day.

    That they do.

Let's get Punisher back from Lion's Gate while we're at it.

  4. DrVenkman on June 8th, 09

I would as well my friend! Hopefully one day.

  5. SamuraiJack on June 8th, 09

Hmmm I'm not sure if I would be really annoyed if they didnt cast Oded Fehr as Dr Strange.. a few years ago I'd have been peeved.. but now who else could fit the part? Karl Urban?

I think Simon Baker could pull off a great Matt Murdoch/Daredevil dichotomy. as his character in The Mentalist is a great template for Murdoch, and he can be intelligently bad ass as seen Land of teh Dead.

I think the actor would depend on if they want to have a younger, just starting out Doctor Strange or a more seasoned older Doc.

Like the "batch update" of movies, Marvel has so many irons in the fire that just doing small updates sometimes makes me overlook them. But in all, Marvel seems to be really pushing for quality development- something I am surprised to see since its so easy to just drop DTV-quality crap in February that will take a week in the box office.
Very excited about the Captain America film. I love Captain America more, though the whole "death story" was kind of a jump of the shark (though every comic goes through those phases) the reboot, especially post-9/11 was very very cool to read. It turned some people off, but the character being out his own time and the fact that he stands more for what America could be vs. what it is really should appeal to a lot of people. A big late June release would be the perfect 4th of July film.

I'm pretty sure Sony has a "from my cold dead hands clause" (claws? haha!). Could be a real battle.

I'm still waiting for a Howard the Duck revamp.

For a Marvel team movie I would really like to see Excalibur and for the lone hero movie, Cable.

  13. TheReaper71 on June 9th, 09

It would blow my mind if they ever come out with a Fatal Attractions and Bloodties movie run.

  14. Jason on June 9th, 09

I would also like to see a Doctor Strange movie.

The studios have the characters for a specific length of time, so when the contracts are up, they'll revert to Marvel/Disney. But so far, Fox has announced a reboot of Fantastic Four (God, the first two movies were awful), and Universal was talking about a Hulk sequel. Fox is also interested in a Wolverine sequel, and obviously, Sony is actually scripting the next TWO Spiderman movies. But they'll revert back eventually.
