Spawn Creator Todd McFarlane is talking about his new ‘Spawn’ movie idea again. I really like the idea he has in mind for the Spawn movie. It really doesn’t focus on the Spawn character at all, even though he is lurking in the shadows doing his thing as the story is told. He has compared the story to being a little bit of both  ‘Jaws’ and ‘The Departed’. The movie is more about the guy chasing down Spawn. McFarlane reveals who he has in mind to play the character:

I’ve always had [Leonardo] DiCaprio in the back of my mind.”

Very interesting choice. I think Dicaprio is a great actor and is able to take on the role of any character. McFarlane continues:

“It’s a big wish, but his dad was a big fan of underground comic books and he came from that. It’s not a big special-effects movie, it’s a character movie, so I could shoot it in 40-50 days and you don’t have to budget that much time.”

If the script is right I don’t see why it couldn’t happen. It’s not like they wouldn’t be able to get the money for it. The most interesting part of this is who mcFarlane has in mind for DiCaprio to play.

“We had Sam and Twitch in the book, but because of some of the stuff I’m trying to sell in Hollywood, we might have to change the characters a bit, but it would still be a police character who’s chasing down a case and in the middle of this ‘Godfather’-type movie, something weird is out there and no one knows about it except him and a few other people.”

So a Sam and Twitch type cop character huh? I really like this movie idea for Spawn and I want to see it get made. I hope McFarlane follows through with it unlike many of the other projects he has piling up. This one has a lot of potential, and I am not closed to the idea of DiCaprio starring in the film. I’m interested in finding out where this movie goes.
