Is it just me or does Ron Howard have better things to do than direct a movie based on the 1976 Hasbro toy ‘Stretch Armstrong’? LIke that awesome looking comic book adaptation of ‘The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft’. As we already know Brian Grazer is producing the film and he and Howard team up on a good amount of movie projects but it doesn’t mean they work on everything together.

That being said Business Week news writer  Christopher Palmeri wrote an interesting article on how entertainment industry is looking at toys to find their movie ideas. It is in this article that he brings up Stretch Armstrong and here is what he say’s.

There’s more on the way. Hasbro has a movie based on its G.I. Joe toy line coming out on Aug. 7. The company has an April 2011 release for a movie version of its Stretch Armstrong figure, to be directed by Ron Howard. That is part of a six-picture deal the company has with Universal Studios (GE), which included a movie version of Monopoly. Meanwhile, archrival Mattel (MAT) is working on movie versions of Hot Wheels and Major Matt Mason. 

To be directed by Ron Howard? Either this guy knows something no one else does or he is jumping to conclusions on the fact that Grazer and Howard work on a great deal of movies together through their Imagine Entertainment. I think the guy is just confused. I can’t find any other type of information on Howard directing this film. 

Stretch Armstrong was a large, gel-filled action figure first introduced in 1976 by Kenner. The figure is in the shape of a well-muscled blond man wearing a pair of swimming trunks. Its most notable feature was that its arms and legs could stretch outwards, presumably without breaking.

Like I said in the beginning Ron Howard has better things to do. I will be shocked if this news ends up being true. What do you think?
