RED DAWN Remake is Building it’s New Cast

You may have heard that the 1980’s film ‘Red Dawn’ is getting the remake treatment by MGM. If this is the first time you have heard about it I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, because we all know that there is really no reason at all for this movie to be remade. The first movie was ridiculous enough, but it can get away with it because it is from the 80’s. I just have a feeling this remake is even going to be more ridiculous.

The studio hopes to start shooting in September and casting has commenced. We have a few names of the people who will be filling in the shoes of the original cast of Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Grey.

Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, Future THOR) will take on the lead character of Jed Eckert that was originally played by Patrick Swayze. He leads the fight against the Chinese and Russian soldiers that invade his hometown of Spokane, WA.

Josh Peck ( The Wackness) has been cast as Matt Eckert who was originally played by Charlie Sheen. He plays the hotheaded star quarterback in the movie who matures throughout the course of the film. Chinese soldiers will do that to you.

Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will play the part of Toni Mason, originally played by Jennifer Grey. It looks like she will play Jed’s love interest in the film.

The ‘Red Dawn’ remake is being directed by Dan Bradley and this is his first directing gig. He is mostly a stunt man. So at least the stunts might be good.

Personally I could care less about who is cast in this film. So what are your thoughts on the new cast for Red Dawn?

Red Dawn was cool, in that it was extremely stupid.

yeah i feel like this is one that definitely does not need to be remade.

Meh. Probably won't be interesting enough for the new generation and the old generation won't be interested in a remake.

My wife is from the town where they filmed the original and even there Red Dawn is at best a guilt pleasure. Who are the Wolverines going to fight now? The Chinese or Al-Queda?

Casting looks a little thin. This sounds almost like a DTV effort… rather than even a "real" remake. If this film is set in present day, and I assume it is… I have a few ideas of who the villains of this film will be.

    1) North Korea
    or
    2) Al Quaida "sleeper cell"
or (and this is the real conservative wet dream)
    3) a government organization/splinter group run amok… what if the tanks started rolling in on your turf, spoke the same language and looked like you, but just wanted you to give up your life and possessions? Does it makes sense? -does it need to?

I find the original to be a great "guilty pleasure" and I will avoid this like I avoid Roadhouse 2.

So Connor Cruise is in this. Who wants to bet that his character will be one of only two "wolverines" to survive. I think the other one will be Adrianne Palickis character Toni.

CHINA INVADES… hmmm makes since..well first they are going to keep buying out american
business, and flooding american markets with cheap goods via Wal-Mart. all this will keep adding to the huge debt that the US owes China. CHINAs economy will continue to grow leaps and bounds, while US economy keeps on sputtering. Once CHINA is strong enough, then will come the invasion.
