From the insanely cool imagination of director Hayao Miyazaki comes his next animated masterpiece ‘Ponyo’ which is being distributed by Disney. This is another take on the story of ‘The Little Mermaid’.  If your not sure who Miyazaki is he has created movies such as ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Spirited Away’, and ‘Howls Moving Castle’. Like all of his film ‘Ponyo’ looks like it is going to be a lot of fun to watch. It looks like it will be filled with mind blowing imagery. The art and style like all of his films looks amazing. The kids are going to love it for sure.

Here is a little more information on the film from the press release:

From the Academy Award®-winning director and world-renowned Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki comes PONYO, a story inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Little Mermaid.” Already a box-office success in Japan, the story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by NOAH CYRUS) and her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent, including CATE BLANCHETT, MATT DAMON, TINA FEY, FRANKIE JONAS, CLORIS LEACHMAN, LIAM NEESON, LILY TOMLIN and BETTY WHITE.

Miyazaki can do no wrong. Utterly amazing! Cant wait!

Ponyo on the Cliff was alright. The art seemed very classic, a hark back to the '70s styled Miyazaki. It was okay. Nothing fantastic really.

I've seen the Japanese version of this film (with English subs) and I loved it! It quickly made its way into the group of my favourite Studio Ghibli Movies.

In saying that, I really do want to see what the English version turns up like. I know a lot of people who don't like english dubbed versions of movies, but I'm not one of them. I find it fascinating to see the way they convert them, as often characters are different depending on the language they are dubbed in.

Miyazaki has once again made this Ghibli fan a happy happy fan with this movie. ^_^
