I believe that seeing as the film will not end with loss, that the suspensful element of the seventh's ending will be introduced through Harry, Ron and Hermione escaping from gringott's on their stolen getaway dragon.

They could still salvage some plot depth for the eighth by milking snape's memories as long as possible. I really thought that the 7th would end with dobby's burial, but Yates says it won't end with loss. They could always have Harry say something deep in front of the beautiful sunset, by the Lake the dragon dropped them in and then fade to black.

Sounds like the ending of Star Wars. Where they are looking out the window in the ship, at least your first idea did.

Maybe an end with everyone but Hermione in the cellar and fade to black as you hear her screams from Bellatrix Lestrange's Cruciatis Curse?

i agree with all of the above, i wish the previous movies had been longer and told more of the story like the books do, dont get me wrong i did enjoy the movies as did my kids but they always ended too soon i felt.
spliting the final one hmm i do think it is a good idea and hopefully we will enjoy a much longer detailed storyline (yes i do realise they cant get the entire book into a movie)
i really do not think they should drag it over a few years though i think some fans myself included would be disappointed to wait so long.

I agree 100% with Chadwin. Whether with a death or a cliffhanger these are the two logical places to end it. As for the splitting of the film, I think it's like having a bar of chocolate. If you save it you're in agony and can't get it out of your head. If you gobble it all up in one go you wish you hadn't. I think it's better for me personally to have it given to me piece by piece. That way I still have something to look forward to. For another couple of years anyway.

After I read the book and knew they were splitting the final book into two movies, I thought it would end after Dobbie died and Harry burying him, with him, Ron, and Hermione looking into the distance knowing what's needs to be done from here on out. Now saying it is a cliffhanger and we just mentioned the Snatchers, I'm thinking it will end with Harry, Ron, and Hermione being taken to the Malfoy's mansion, and it will end with Lucius saying something sneering and will close thinking Harry is done in.

I have to say that I oppose splitting the final chapter at all. Of all of the films to split, I believe this is the wrong one. A lot of good stories about the Hogwarts faculty and tertiary characters have been cut for time in previous films that provided a lot more depth and gave you a sense of a bigger world than just Harry and his companions. And, while we get some revelation on Snape, a few good action sequences and a grand finale, I felt that much of the 7th book was filler. Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, as well as Half Blood Prince had a lot more 'meat' to them but did not get the 2-movie treatment.

Most of the driving force on the split is, of course, money. Coming to the end of a very profitable franchise for Warner's has got to be a concern for them. Perpetuating the series just one more film is sure to provide studio executives with one more bonus in a slow economy.

I'm not casting aside the creative efforts of the production staff and cast. They are concerned about making the best movie they can, and that's great. I'm sure everyone will rise to the challenge. I just wish they would have been this concerned about telling more of the story in earlier films.
